Adelaide Oval's Football Ground Dimension

Postby Wedgie » Sun Feb 04, 2007 8:46 am

Ive always wondered why Adelaide Oval had its lines painted in such a stupid shape which is nothing like an oval. I just assumed it had always been there.
Then I stumbled upon this old photo from the 30s and I was amazed to see back then they had the common sense to paint the lines in a much better shape than it is these days. Why don't they make it more of an oval and paint the lines like they used to??

the reason Adelaide Oval is an odd shape, is because there was originally a bike track around the perimeter.

Whilst on the subject of ground shapes, why does Prospect Oval have the goals in the forward pockets?

The odd shape of Adelaide Oval isn't the issue, the issue is why dont they mark the boundaries like they did in the old days to make it a better shaped oval?
