Mackie got out about 86, . The other guy who was a paraplegic died in jail(?). Both were sentenced to death but then had their terms commuted to life. Think they were the last blokes to be sentenced to death in S.A.. Mackie was released on compassionate grounds, again not sure but I think M.S.. And they all lived on the street where I live now

His real name was Valentine George Mackie but he and the media used George as his preferred Christian name. Your correct re the death penalty for the two of them but the statutes were certainly changed in 1976 in SA to abolish sentencing to death and the new top penalty being life imprisonment. So you live on Egan Cres, Mitchell Park then?

With a fella in it.

Some love tryangle, that people went for murder...

Yes. That was during the 1975 season. I reckon it was in July. I actually wasn't at the footy that day, I was at the Cheltenham races and I heard the boom from there.

Sturt v West Rd 14 1975

Sturt won 13.27 to West 15.10

I was listening to the game on the radio and heard the explosion and the commentators shouting "What was that ?" etc..

A school mate of mine was at the game - sitting on the eastern side of Football Park - I remember him telling me at school the next week that he heard the noise, looked across towards the members stand to see the car roof go up in the air and down again behind the stand.

Bloody hell, I had never heard about that! I'm going to look into it now...

Holding up the race for the players to run through at the start of the 1995 Grand Final, the sound which reverberated around the ground was amazing, I am still getting goose bumps thinking of it.

OR.......setting off a parachute man firecracker behind the northern goals, during a CD v Glenelg match....and promptly getting arrested......as the man in the parachute slowly drifted down to earth.

OR...................stupidly getting one of the TWO, yes, only two, dead magpies out of the green garbage bag which held them & showing some people in the crowd.......only for an official to come over & confiscate them (during the reserves match, even before the league game had started). How that story has been stretched over the years is incredible.
