I'd love to get the video of this match. Except it was Torrens and not Sturt.

Gotta love the synth compilation CD soundtrack.

Check out the Nine Action News newsbreak from the late-80s.

Features a young John Riddell, with hair, reading the news from some loose A4 pieces of paper.

And Barry Pittman reading the weather.

Those were the days...

Coming down from the NT on holidays, I remember watching Torrens play Port IIRC in a night game at Thebarton in 1983 (on 10) at my grandparents and they got the mother of all hidings - only scored 1 goal to 3/4 time and Glenn Elliot??? made them do the 3/4 time lap of shame....

Next thing I know they are playing off in the GF....and winning??? Is that correct Spelly???
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Definitely 1982 that game. I remember it as I was in a footy tipping comp at work and I picked Torrens to win the next week and got laughed at. Well they got up (against Central IIRC).
Also the Night Series in those days was a knock out comp and once you lost you were out.

Different years they were - the first match you said was in 1982; the final Torrens played in was 1983.

Qualifying Final 1982
Port 2.3 7.7 17.13 20.15 (135)
Torrens 0.2 0.4 0.6 6.11 (47)
Norwood, 1182

Grand Final 1983
Torrens 0.4 2.8 3.11 7.15 (57)
South 4.3 4.3 5.6 5.7 (37)
Thebarton, 7951

The round after that 1982 match:
Round 13 1982
Torrens 5.2 11.6 14.10 21.10 (136)
Central 5.0 8.2 9.5 12.7 (79)
Thebarton, 3540
