Ahhhh!! 1974, those were the days. It was still called Football Park, No AFL, no Crows, no Power ..... Barrie Robran's knee was still sound, great days indeed. Only trouble is Norwood hadn't won a flag for 24 years!! :)

Every time I think of Football Park I think of that first state match against WA. The park was far from finished and it's amazing nobody in the crowd fell and impaled themselves on solid steel rods sticking up out of the ground. And the scenes outside the ground prior to the 1976 GF had to be seen to be believed, people lined up about 100 metres to get into the ground.

I'd say one is Barrie, the centrals captain, I haven't the foggiest....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Ah yes, you're right Tassie, re Centrals, the socks give it away.

Presumably the photos supplied by LL are of the first game ever played at Footy Park. I used to work with a guy who was the first senior player to score a goal at footy park (playing for CD, kicked in the Reserves in Round 1, 1974).

I reakon that would acutally be a couple of years after that because I think I read that the lake was filled in about 1976/77.

Only thing I can find to suggest the picture wasn't taken in the 1974 season was this:

Westfield West Lakes

In 1970, developers commenced the creation of a new suburb - West Lakes, located 12kms from the city to the north west of Adelaide, on the coast, built around a man-made lake.

West Lakes Mall was an integral component of the development and opened in November 1974 offering a K Mart, Coles, Venture and approximately 40 specialty shops.

In March 2004 Westfield West Lakes 18 month redevelopment will be complete, increasing the center’s GLA from 48 600sqm to 62 500sqm. Features of the redevelopment include a new cinema complex, 54 new retailers and a new food court. The new Westfield West Lakes will include David Jones, Harris Scarfe, Kmart, Coles, Woolworths, and approximately 200 specialty stores.

Westfield West Lakes is the main regional shopping destination in Adelaide’s west. The centre is also complimented by its surroundings including AAMI Stadium, Adelaide’s Australian Rules Football facility.
