Maybe this will entice Adelaide Hawk back...

Postby spell_check » Sun Nov 25, 2007 9:12 pm

Last year, Adelaide Hawk asked me a question in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3639

As you can see at that time I only had scores from 1999 onwards. Well, now I've got them from 1987, which is from that point his question came from onwards.

The answer from that match up until now, is that there has not been a bigger margin than the 563 points (102.77 (689) vs 17.24 (126)) of Norwood over South combining the 4 matches. The next biggest is also by Norwood, over Glenelg in Round 18 1997 - combined margin is 480 points - 109.53 (653) vs 26.17 (173).

The 102.77 (689) is not the highest score combined for the four grades, but the second highest. Port scored 111.73 (739) against North's 37.38 (260) in Round 22 2000.

Going back to 1984, the margin record still stands. However, the 2000 record set by Port is not that; Sturt scored this in Round 9 1984 against Woodville:

League 24.19 vs 18.15
Reserves 22.17 vs 17.17
Under 19s 34.17 vs 8.13
Under 17s 37.25 vs 3.7
Combined 117.78 (780) vs 46.53 (329)

Norwood also had bettered that 111.73 (739) in 1984, also against Woodville, scoring 115.62 (752) vs 38.32 (260).

Another update, I've found one larger combined margin than the Norwood/South matches:

Round 3 1980
Port vs Woodville
League: 37.21 (243) vs 13.4 (82)
Reserves: 26.11 (167) vs 13.11 (89)
Under 19s: 42.28 (280) vs 10.3 (63)
Under 17s: 24.13 (157) vs 6.2 (38)
Combined: 129.73 (847) vs 42.20 (272)

Great stuff Spelly. I would have bet that Norwood v South Adelaide would have been a record, but there you go. Amazing stuff.

Percentage wise it is superior, so I'll hang my hat on that :)

I remember they showed that game on the replay that evening. Late in the game they showed the Port bench. Port were 25 goals in front .. and John Cahill looked worried!!! :)

That's surprising because West Adelaide's A team played finals and their Under 19s won the flag in 1968. Mind you, 1968 was a particularly wet winter.
