The oldest SANFL Club is?

Postby Sojourner » Mon Dec 29, 2008 11:44 am

From the SANFL Website we read the following on the South Adelaide history page,

South is the second oldest football club in South Australia.

http://www.sanfl.com.au/clubs/south_adelaide/

On Wikepedia however the following information is found,

The Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club - "the Magpies" - was founded in 1997 to replace the original Port Adelaide Football Club

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Adelaide_Magpies

So which website is correct? Is South Adelaide the oldest club in the SANFL or is Port Adelaide the oldest club in the SANFL?

As far as I'm concerned u cant just jump into the AFL, take all your history with you and then form another club to fill the void you left.

Maggies are the oldest.. sure a die hard will tell you that, along with supporters of every SANFL club

I support a SANFL club and there are 2 Port Adelaide football clubs simple as that.the one in the AFL wears 1870 on its back .
If they were one club why would the magpies sell grandstand tickets from a Card table in the POWER club rooms .And not somewhere official looking rather than stuck by a door .

Ducks down to avoid certain family members hitting me ;)

or more accurately, that is exactly what certain supporters of Port Power would have you believe, despite all contrary evidence.

anyone who has the PAFC annual report of 1996 will see that the Magpies are a continuation of PAFC. PAFC transferred its assets to the Power
