Either Button was outstanding at CHF or Norwood have had very few decent players in that position in over 100 years.
Ive always thought it was the latter of those options mate
Over the years, as I imagine with other clubs, Norwood had very few permanent CHFs, but at the same time had some excellent players line up there.
In the 1920s, we had Clyde Close an Philip K Lee (his career interupted by Test cricket).
The 1930s saw a lot of players rotating through CHF as ruck rovers tended to rest there - Alf Biddell, Ern Wadham, Perc McCallum and HT Warhurst. Bill McCallum also played there, but not in his 1936 Magarey Medal season.
The 1940s saw Kevin Hardiman, Albert "Pongo" Sawley, Neville Way and Ron Williams.
In the 1950s we had Max Mayo, Ron Reimann, Ron Kneebone and Brian Sawley.
Early in the 1960s we had John Lill, and later that decade Graham Molloy, but very few others to speak of.
1970s saw some great players all make spasmodic appearances. Early it was John Wynne, then Phil Carman before Ross Dillon made the position his own for several years. Then we had Greg Parke (76), Jim Thiel (77), Brian Adamson (78 & 79) and also Bruce Winter.
In the 1980s nobody cemented the position with Brenton Hartfield, Tom Warhurst, Neil Button, Craig Kelly, Jim Michalanney and Rod Maynard filling the role.
The 1990s saw Craig Balme, Sam Smart, Tom Warhurst, Jason Millar and Lenny Pascoe, once again nobody permanent.
This century hasn't seen anyone take the position with many players filling the spot.
