Anything to do with the history of the SANFL

Correct - it changed totally in 1974. Years 11 and 12 had a co-ed classes for 2-3 years beforehand

Kings, Girton and Pembroke are all colleges at Cambridge and the local Pembroke Street sealed the deal for the name.

It was called a School because of the left leaning attitude of the first Headmaster Diana Medlin. She wanted it to be less formal. We lost the school suit, ties and caps for the juniors. There was a general leaning towards the equalisation of the gender that she took far beyond the middle. Some of the ex-Girton teachers struggled with "attitude" of the lads who may not have had their total attention on their lessons. The boys also lost a lot of House sport which we weren't happy about. It is far more equal now.

A lot of Kings lads didn't enjoy the change because we lost our unique identity, history and strong sporting tradition whilst Medlin seemed determined to maintain the Girton one

Co-education is not for everybody - My son was always going to PAC and there are a few others who send their offspring to a single gender school.

We still have King's lunches.................. and John Moody remains revered amongst the ex Kings boys.

We sure did - many a fight at the bus stop. At least you fought fair unlike the Norwood Tech thugs. They would use all sorts of "tools of war"

He appeared to enjoy playing Sturt most of all, kicking 16 goals in 4 games against the Blues.

that's an unbelievable hot streak for a CHF that I just couldn't remember, particularly when we've rarely had blokes who kick more than 70 goals in a year.
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

Yep, that was the disappointing part of him returning to WA in 1980. We'd only just begun to see what he was capable of.

A bit of trivia: We recruited 2 CHFs from West Perth in the 70s, John Wynne in 1970 and Brian Adamson in 1978. They both played in a West Perth and Norwood premiership, and both wore number 14 at West Perth :)

Yes, it was 1974 when the school became co-educational. Kings College merged with Girton Girls School, so they changed the name to Pembroke School. Not sure why, Kings College sounded much classier :)

"Pembroke" came from some school or college in Cambridge ... that's all I know.

Kings O.C. Football club changed their name to Pembroke O.C. for the start of the 1978 season in line with the school

Until this year we had not played them since 1977 when they were still known as Kings O.C.
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.
