Patriotic Carnivals - WW2 era

Postby Squawk » Thu May 20, 2010 9:25 pm

Does anyone know anything about the Kensington and Norwood Patriotic Carnivals held at Norwood Oval during the World War 2 era? I know nothing at all about them, so any information at all would be of interest to me!

Do you mean the lightning carnival held in August 1943 at Adelaide Oval? Or something else? If something else can you provide any more details as I'd like to chase up the info I love that era.

LL - I dont have any other details other than during WW2 era there seems to have been a few patriotic carnivals in the Norwood area (eg an annual event possibly?). They seem to have been a Red Cross branded activity.

I absolutely speculating here, but I'm wondering if they were a kind of pre-season carnival to raise money for Red Cross' war effort, given the SANFL sides merged from 1942-44. The one I do know of was on Feb 13 and 14, but I have no idea in what year it took place.
