Good idea Phil :)

Page 70 - Glenelg's lowest score was in 2004, not 2003.

Hi Phil - well done to both Peter Argent & yourself for the book and hope to see it there every year from now on - especially as an exciting new Sturt era is about to commence!

Anyway just a couple of errors:

Page 8 - left hand column says Ebert won his 4th Magarey Medal in 1980 and the right hand column same page states he played 25 games for North Melbourne in 1980 - no wonder he sat down on the floor with Bob McLean after the presentation ceremony on Magarey Medal night - must have been exhausted playing both full SANFL & VFL seasons in the same year!

However a correction needed for 2009 edition - Page 150 omits the 1978 Escort Cup won by South Adel - the 78 Escort Cup details are on page 228 of the 2006 SA Football Media Guide.

Well done once again!

Page 151
1930 - W Scott - club listed as nw - all other Norwood medallists shown with capital 'N'
1940 - PM Brock - should be Glenelg
1975 - R B Wolfe (PA) .. should be Woite.
1977 - TF Grimmwood (W) - should be Grimwood (WA)
1982 - AB McGuiness (Gl) - should be a double 'n'
1997 - AN Jarman (NA) - should be Norwood
2002 - TM Weatherald (S) - all other Sturt medallists shown as 'St'

And I'm a little mystified by the goal tallies in the SANFL Leading Goalkickers (Page 166) for the past 10 or so seasons where goals kicked in finals aren't counted (eg Jim West listed as 73 in 1997 but he kicked 80), whereas in earlier years they were (eg 1969 Fred Phillis 137 goals, etc)

Not being a pedant but...

Most references have Hodges' tally as 130.

Over the years 'leading goalkickers' lists have fluctuated according to the publication.

The Footy Times would even include pre-season matches in goal tallies!

(And pre-season games as well - a particular pet hate of mine. Minor round and finals should only count!)

Centrals have only won two wooden spoons, 1964 and 1977. 1970 listed on Centrals page in the guide as a spoon year for us and not the case.

I can vouch for Coligan and Roberts (above) being correct. The following I cannot say for certain they are correct, but here are my records:

Tim Evans 1978 - 90 goals
Goal tallies: 1, 5, 1, 0, 4, 8, 3, 4, 2, 3, 0, 3, 3, 4, 1, 1, 6, 5, 8, 7, 5, 4, 10, 2, 0.

Trevor Pierson 1982 - 104 goals
Goal tallies: 6, 2, 2, 0, 7, 4, 4, 5, 6, 4, 2, 8, 3, 6, 3, 4, 6, 4, 11, 7, 7, 3.

Stephen Nichols 1988 - 103 goals
Goal tallies: 5, 1, 2, 0, 0, 5, 5, 11, 7, 1, 2, 7, 8, 2, 1, 6, 7, 1, 13, 6, 4, 9.

The differences I had for Coligan were:
Round 5 - 5 goals 1 behind (You have 6 goals)
Round 17 - 4 goals 3 behinds (5 goals)

For Roberts:
Round 13 - 1 goal 5 behinds (0)

I just tallied up Evans again and he did add up to 90 goals.

For Pierson:
Round 3 - 7 goals 1 behind (2)

For Nichols:
Round 18 - 2 goals (1)

Re: SA FOOTY MEDIA GUIDE - CORRECTIONS FOR 2009 EDITION

Postby JamesH » Sun Apr 20, 2008 1:37 pm

I have noticed discrepancies between the head to head club v club totals between the 2006 and 2008 media guide.

An example is that the 2006 edition had Port v South (P 229, PA w 182, SA W 45, D 2), while the 2008 edition had (P 234 PA W 184, SA W, 48 D 2).

Between 2006 and 2006 the clubs played 6 times;

2006-R4-Alb PAM 17.15-117 d SA 11.8-74
2006-R12-Noa SA 24.18-162 d PAM 8.7-55
2006-EF-AO SA 18.12-120 d PAM 16.8-104
2007-R5-Alb PAM 12.18-90 d SA10.10-70
2007-R14-Noa SA 14.15-89 d PAM 11.10-76
2007-R18-Noa PAM 25.16-166 d SA 11.13-79

If using the 2004 edition as a base this means they would have played 235 times. I have noticed similar issues for Norwood v WWT, CD v West & Port v Sturt.

Were these figures re-tallied between media guides? Is the 2008 edition more likely to be correct?
