North/WWT swaps

Postby spell_check » Fri Nov 07, 2008 8:01 pm

With the recent signing of Ben Schwarze to North Adelaide, upon playing a League match for them, he will be the 15th player to have played for both North and WWT. And this will be only in the space of 19 seasons. These are the other players:

Adam Grocke (North to Eagles)
Mark Jeffries (North to Eagles to North)
Stuart Lamond (North to Eagles)
Brett Mancini (North to Eagles)
Travis Oakley (North to Eagles)
Luke Peel (North to Eagles)
Luke Spehr (North to Eagles)
Damien McCarthy (North to Woodville to Eagles)
Jason King (Eagles to North)
Jake Lynch (Eagles to North)
Brett O'Hara (Eagles to North)
Luke Toia (Eagles to North)
Daniel Wise (Eagles to North)
James McEntee (West to North to Eagles)

Are there any other pairs of clubs that like to trade players? Central and North also come to mind.

Norwood and Sturt have traded a few over the years, not sure if it's anything out of the ordinary though

Port and Glenelg seemed to have a few over the years...Peter Woite, Mark Tylor, Phil McGuinness, Eugene Warrior (in a roundabout way) all come to mind without really thinking.

The 2 biggest traditional rivals Port and Norwood, would probably have the least swaps.

I can't think of many at all, apart from Smallridge, and maybe Kym Curtis i think??, although obviously there would be quite a few over the years no doubt.

Going back to Spelly's original question though, which pair of clubs would have had the most trades since 1991 (with the condition that the player played League for both clubs)?

I am fairly sure that Glenelg+any club wouldn't be higher than either the North/Eagles or the North/Centrals list.

From memory South would probably be the most with Glenelg since 1991 (Koster, A Parker, Burdett, M Clarke, Draper, Hams, Handby, Harwood, Mannion, Aulich + probably one or two more). Also had a few swaps with them just before 1991.

Glenelg-Centrals don't have many...

This would be a good thing to start a complete record of Spelly - it wouldn't be that hard to get the full list since 1991 (and near to complete lists before them - since 1980 they were all documented in the Football Times yearbooks, so that wouldn't take too long to compile).

It would also be interesting to know what eras have had the most active trading.

Ive always meant to ask how this came about? Big Bob was obviously a legendary player, how does Norwood, the biggest powerhouse at the time, let him go?  (Cue AH?)
