Postby TroyGFC » Fri Jul 20, 2007 4:37 pm

Just had a look at http://www.cdfc.com.au and looked at video clip of game.
Does anyone know the Norwood players that played that day?

Cheers

Norwood 17.12.114 d Central District 14.14.98 in front of 11,231
at the Parade on the 16th of April 1983.
My Football Times didn't list the stats of every player, just goalkickers and best players.
Goals;Greg Turbill 4,Greg Thomas 3,Michael Aish, Keith Thomas, Garry McIntosh,
Neil Hein 2 each, Phillip Gallagher & Neil Button 1 each.
Best Players;Michael Aish,Jim Thiel,Neil Button,Phillip Gallagher,Keith Thomas,Greg Turbill.
You might have to visit the State Library to look at The Adevertiser or ring Gerry McGinley @
At The Toss of a Coin. He might have the Budget for that game.

Warhurst @ CHF? :?
Thought he was a CHB.

Yeah, Tommy played most of his footy between CHB & FB, but 1983 was early in his career and they tried him at CHF for awhile. He didn't stay there long, but he did manage 45 goals in his 246 games.

Ran in a straight line but had an awkward kicking style.
Dad was pretty handy as well.

Had Justin Scanlon made his debut by this time?

Justin Scanlon debuted in 1982 but only played a handful of games. That match against Central in 1983 was the only one he missed for the season.

I recall a game from that era (ie 83/84) where Centrals actually thrashed Norwood, might have been 84. I'm sure someone probably has a record of that game..

Yeah, thumped us by 90+ at the Ponderosa in 84' ... Was about the last game we lost for the year ... Returned to Footy Park to play the top placed Maggies and beat them by about 5 goals the following week, paper's title for their review on the game read "From Misery To Magic"

Tommy Warhurst also played a few games at CHF early in the 82 season aswell ... CHF was a position Norwood regularly struggled to fill in the 80's.

1984 was a "masterpiece" in programming for the SANFL. For some reason Norwood played Central twice in the minor round, both games at Elizabeth Oval. Two losses by 43 and 95 points. Even though Norwood were a very good side in those days, they couldn't handle the Ponderosa at all.

Had the misfortune as a six year old lad to be at Elizabeth that day. Its about the only game that I can remember from that era in vivid detail. Started my despise of the Bulldogs..scared for life by that afternoon

What was the date of that dogs game spelly? I'm pretty certain that game was the same day my Nanna passed away and the dogs went top that round (sometime in July if memory serves).

I have made a point about this before, but in the 1980s, there were seasons where the draw was nearly identical to the previous season - rounds in which the same teams played each other in the same rounds.

What's also interesting about the 1984 draw was this:

Glenelg played Norwood and Port three times every year in the 1980s, except 1980 and 1984.
North played Woodville three times every year in the 80s, except 1981 and 1984.
Norwood played Port three times every year between 1979 and 1995, except 1984.
1982 and 1984 were the only years in the 80s where Torrens played Port three times.
1981 and 1984 were the only years in the 80s where Woodville played Glenelg three times.
1980 and 1984 were the only years in the 80s where Woodville played Port three times.
1982 and 1984 were the only years in the 80s where South played Glenelg three times.
