Postby Flinders » Tue Mar 28, 2006 6:30 pm

OK

Here it is from the horse's mouth:

Jim (James) ThomPson

Norwood 1960 Ressies Grand Final
Glenelg in the years after that and then
he ended his SANFL career at Woodville in 1967
(not sure of exactly when he started with Woodville)

So there we have it. As I suspected, we are talking about two different players.

James Thompson played 0 league games for Norwood, 9 for Glenelg (1962,63), and 0 for Woodville.
Jim Thomson played 3 games for Norwood in 1974, and 6 games for Glenelg in 1977.

So over the years there have been two J. Thompsons then - James Thompson and John Thompson. I suspect that when Legs named John Thompson, Adelaide Hawk, you thought that this was a sixties player and therefore wasn't missing on the list (You didn't name him from your player records), however it was a different J. Thompson. Hence James Thompson has been left out until now. Thank you Flinders!

John Thompson is the brother of James Thompson. John played one game for Glenelg. I'm glad we got this sorted! It's a shame the records don't include a middle initial to differentiate against the more 'common' names.

Yes, thanks for this, as it may not have been discovered that there were two J Thompsons! Clubs can be a bit lax in not picking up in these differences, and hopefully this forum and lists can sort out all the problems.

Sorry to stuff you about but apparently John Thompson didn't play a league game with GFC, although he did train with them.

I saw a John Thompson in The Pride of the Bay, so it might be a different one.

This would be David King - in The Pride of The Bay he is listed as 1 game in 1976.

Thanks. There should be around 1000 players to go from 1907 onwards now.
