PR youre out of line mate.
Glenelg without doubt was a superpower in that period
mentioned by bayman and tassie.
Does your disrespect of the Glenelg footy stem from the fact
that thier last few flags were in fact against North Adelaide????????

Had the Bays converted a couple more grand finals the argument
would have been further emphasised in the Bays favour.

Mal thanks for the support but credit where credit is due at least North have won a greater percentage of their GFs than we have.

IMHO it is a sad inditement on my club that we haven't got more trophies in our cabinet from 1969 to 1992 14 GFs for 3 flags is not a good return.

To me flags are all that counts, followed by making finals.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

TASSIE the mass South Australia defections of the mid eighties
to the VFL came at an inopportune time for your Yabs.
Your yabs had won i think the 1985 and 1986 flags and then the
champs like Kernahans,Hodgey, Moose etc left for greener AFL pastures.
Had they stayed you would have won a couple more flags.
When the Crows started your Yabs lost from memory a greater
proportion of players than North Adelaide.
Add also to the fact NA won some flags prior to 1921 when the Yabs
were formed.

Just like Port Adelaide eventually they lost too many good players
to the Power in the 90's and by 2000 had been raped by the AFL.
Had that nucleas of players continued on do you honstly think
Centrals would have dominated as they did in 2001-2006 ??????
In my opinion the CD sides of 95/96 had as much talent as the
great sides of 2001-2006 but were up against a great PA team.

Is it just me or has this thread gone "off topic"

FWIW The VFL was easily better than SANFL in the 80s. The VFL clubs had greater depth than our clubs. Our champions (Kernahan, Bradley, Ebert, Platten etc) could go over there and star but our good players struggled (Symo, Duthy, Antrobus S Williams). Where as their fringe 1s/2s players came over here and were good players - not great/stars (e.g. Maynard, G Smith, Kruse, R Foster).

That was largely due to picking 12 x 20 players for league footy from 2.5 Million in the 80s v picking 10 x 20 players for league footy in Adelaide from 1 Million people. Bigger economy in Melbourne meant you could pay players more hence the lure of the $$$$$

I think the fact that Glenelg fans think 1 premiership is better than 2 and a championship of Australia partly explains the mediocrity of their club for the entire 20th century and beyond. They remind me of some Eagles fans in the 21st century where close enough is obviously good enough. :?

If you think a spoon is not as bad as coming 7th (our lowest position - 1979) and missing finals for half the decade compared to 3 times go ahead Wedgie. How's the glass? Half full or half empty?

Remember the Carlton players in 1972 were all gun shy after Mal Brown had terrorised them the day before mate. Those that could play were suffering post traumatic stress disorder.....

Has the NAFC given him their player of the carnival medal as he won it for you.....

I think my post made it clear of my repect for North for having won two flags compared to our one and how I consider 3 flags from 14 GFs. Adelaide Hawks original post is about Glenelg being considered one of the big 4 clubs in the 70s and clearly we can be.

Don't take my word for it see Mr Whimpress' quote and may I say it your in-laws.....

lol, no worries Tassie, Im sure if you repeat to yourself 1000 times that 1 flag is better than 2 and a national championship you'll eventually believe it.
Hopefully we'll keep winning twice as many flags (if not more) than the Bays every decade which will keep everyone happy!

I'm a Port supporter.

Don't you feel much better now, Tassie?

Always thought some of your anti-Port posts were a bit forced, along the lines of...

"He doth protest too much."

Welcome aboard.

Hey, Wedgie do you think MP has a point? Maybe some of the CLAYTONs points I've made on this thread show the irrationality and narrow-mindedness (is that a word) associated with being a Port supporter?? I mean look how I am BUTCHERing English and dropping Port Players into every sentance and everyfink like that.....

Well I'm off to grow a mullet and get a new flannie....

Why do south australians in general feel that they have to prove any thing to victoria. Its like we have small mans syndrome or something. every time a vic has an opiion sa whinge about it thus making ourselves look like a whiney little brother. actions always speak louder than words.beat them and what could they possibly got to say. theyll come up with excuses, big deal, let them!
