Hah! Good luck! I hope that Stan Alves is on air when you do , otherwise you'll have to explain to those other idiots what the SANFL is. Let alone who Peter Carey is.

If you do get Stan Alves, tell him SAFooty.net is currently promoting his book as a good read! :D

What a pity we get the crossover from Perth at 12noon, 10 minutes before the game!

I wanted to hear Victorians try to argue their way out of the injustice of Carey's omission!

From "Barrie's Corner" on http://www.nafc.co.au

AFL Hall of Fame
I read with great interest Graham Cornes' article in Saturday's Advertiser regarding the non-induction of former Glenelg Champion, Peter Carey, in to the Australian Football League Hall of Fame. I concur wholeheartedly with every word that Graham said about Peter Carey. The "big fellow" was a true {and most enduring} Champion and, in my opinion, cost us winning a third consecutive premiership in 1973.
Surely Peter will be inducted {not this year}, but very soon I trust in recognition of his marvellous career.
Two other former Club Champions who also deserve to be inducted from our State are Andrew Jarman and Garry Mc Intosh. Surely their opportunity won't be too long in coming.
I must confess to not knowing if Graham himself has been inducted in to the A.F.L. Hall of Fame, or not, but if he hasn't, then surely he should also be recognised for his long and meritorious contribution to Football in South Australia.
North Adelaide F C : Champions of Aust 1972 : Premiers 1900, 02, 05, 20, 30, 31, 49, 52, 60, 71, 72, 87, 91

Don't stress, that North Adelaide Champion Wayne Carey is eligible next year.

You could argue for the inclusion of a few South Australians (apart from Carey).

Jim Deane, Ken Eustice, Ian McKay, John Marriot, Paul Bagshaw and probably Peter Darley as well.
The biggest problem with players like Davies (and I'm not saying it's fair - i'm just saying) is their time in the VFL. Davies was far too old when he went over and did little when he did.

I agree with all the posts so far ... you only have to look at SOO match-ups in the 80s and the performances of SANFL clubs v VFL clubs in 70s/early 80s so know that the 2 comps were comparable in standard and the SANFL achievements of that era should not be under-played over the border the way they are.

It's a crime that Dean Kemp is in before Paul Bagshaw and Peter Carey and most of the other names already mentioned. As Wedgie said, not to knock Dean Kemp but he never struck me as a hall-of-famer that's purely AFL bias.

The WAFL supporters could probably come up with 5 names too.

At least, I was thinking the same thing, they've probably had a lot of champions missed out too, mind you WA players always did seem a bit keener than their SA brethren to jump ship to the VFL.

I think they had to come up with a random name to find the token WA player. That's giving it as less consideration to it as possible.

Dutchy, I remember that banner...what a ripper...accounted for over half the native plantantion in Tasmania !!
Supe should get in for that banner alone...would have to be close to being the biggest banner in history ?

Massive Banner.....MASSIVE CHEERSQUAD...

Where have all the bays fans gone????

In the early-mid 80's Glenelg had a HUGE supporter base.
Their cheersquad had the most "floggers" than any other by far, only Norwood at the time could come close I reckon.

Maybe a sustained bit of success can bring some of them out..

Please scan the photos, should be good to view them..

Good question Smithy, in the last 2 years there only banners which have been tiny have been made by their trainers.

Good points made here. Firstly, the decision to include Kemp confuses me. Are Mckenna, Worsfold and Glendinning in the hall of fame yet? If not, Kemp's Selection is a joke. Secondly, a huge amount of Glenelgs fans jumped on the Crows Bandwagon and would only dust off their scarfs for a finals apperance . The pathetic performances of the team since 92 have also taken their toll. For example i've probably been to 100+ Glenelg games and only seen 20 wins, sports fans of all denomitations want to see their team win or at least be competitive....this has been lacking for 15 years now.

My guess would be that they cant be nominated whilst they're still involved in the game, in particular Worsfold as coach of the Weagles, and McKenna as an assistant at the Wobbles.

Talking with the old Cheer Squad leader in the early 90s Supes banner was the biggest they ever made.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I would have had Davies and Bagshaw in before Darren Jarman.

I would support a SUPER for HOF campaign over the next year.

As a kid, I hated Carey. He was old, slow, used to belt people around and he was still bloody good. Having read about his record now I'm older - he definately deserves the gong.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Certainly was not the biggest banner made in SA - that honour belongs to the NACS of 1983 (despite what Phil Herden will claim with the WCS! )
