Or Essendon?? If it is the same Mike (Mick) Delahunty I know he is currently the member for Wimmera in the Victorian Paliament and since November last year the Victorian Minister for Sport.

His electoral bio says he used to play for Essendon, IIRC, as he comes from the old Essendon recruiting zone.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The Essendon player and current Minister for Sport is Hugh Delahunty who played 46 games for Essendon between 1971 and 1973.

The former Collingwood and Sturt player is Mike Delahunty who played 42 games for Collingwood between 1971 and 1975. I don't know if they are related.

As an aside Hugh Delahunty's sister, Mary Delahunty was an ABC newsreader and then a Member of Parliament in Victoria. The great irony was that brother and sister were both in the same parliament, yet Hugh was a National Party member and Mary a Labor Party member.

After further investigation I have found out that Mike Delahunty is the brother of Hugh and Mary Delahunty. Mike and Hugh faced each other three times in VFL matches and Mary and Hugh did battle for many years in Victoria's parliament. Quite a combative family.

That's just impossible to answer mal - a real chalk and cheese scenario. Greeny would've been a 100-goal player too if that clumsy oaf Dean Ottens hadn't fallen all over the top of him. Edwardstown must've been good for both of them anyway with Greenslade getting two or three years in at the Bay and Whelan going back to Unley for a couple of seasons.

Kenny Whelan played 6 games for ST in 1978 and then quit in June and also went to Edwardstown

Question is
Did Edwardstown go top ?
They recruited 1006 SANFL goals !!!!

Its incredible how many players became unavailable or injured for ST this season

QUESTION
Who was the better full forward
MALcolm Or Kenny ?

This is REALLY testing the memory but IIRC Edwardstown played Flinders Park in the SAFA Grand Final that year. I remember the Sturt cheer squad were out in force for Edwardstown. I just can't for the life of me remember who won

Jim Buckley came from the VFA, he played centre for Port Melbourne.

Greg Hollick was one of the three we got from Richmond for Glynn Hewitt.

Dexter Kennedy was 15 mal, still the youngest in the SANFL.

Vic Melville, brother of West Australian state player Robbie, and sadly a shadow of his brother as a footballer.

Bruce Stevenson was recruited from Hawthorn.

Simon Tait, a wingman, played about 49 games for us and then one for the Bays, the team he supported as a kid.

Both the Williams boys started at Westies and went to Port at the end of 78 when Fos retired.

De Jong quit footy early in 83 and was talked into returning for the finals when Mickan went down.

GREG HOLLICK
This is from an article written by KG Cunningham in 1974

I dont suppose you are always right
I also said last Sunday that West Adelaide centreman Greg Hollick would play for SA next season- thats not quite right
My spies tell me Greg is a little undecided, however he is on the open market, South and Port have been freely mentioned as his new club, but according to West Adelaide they will need to find plenty of brass, somewhere in the vicinity of between 10 and 15 grand, not a bad price !

History show$ that Hollick continued on with West Adelaide
Nickname, how did his career go in the SANFL ?, I reckon he was quite a good player
I reckon he had a Greg Anderson hairstyle

IIRC Beswick, Grimwood and Hayes went to West with Fos (in 1974), possibly a year later due to clearance problems. Also reckon Meuret debuted in 76.

Stevenson ended up at Central in 1979 but don't remember if he did much after that.

Ray Hayes was still at Port Adelaide in 1974. The Beswick one in interesting and maybe Mark Beswick will read this and put us straight. I believe he was was looking at playing for Norwood in 1974 but ended up at West Adelaide, so I'm not sure it was a case of following Fos Williams. I think he stood out for the whole of 1974.

Hayes debuted in 75.
Meuret debuted in 76.
Whitington debuted in 74.

He was a highly talented player and gave us good service. As an indication of his ability, he was named Richmond's best player in the drawn 2nd Semi Final against Carlton in 1972. As for his hairstyle mal, it was masked later in his career as he wore a helmet.

No, he played 5 games for the year. My memory is that he played a couple early on and then went surfing.

Got some of the recruited players wrong as missread my information
Total games played in 78 by some of those players
BESWICK 13
GRIMWOOD 22
HAYES 21
MUERET 20
BRODERICK 3
WHITTINGTON 2

WHITTINGTON
Recruited from SA ?

TOP 5
One ammendment to my list
Geoff Morris in the top 5, and replacing Bob Loveday

HAMILTON
I listed P Hamilton as a good midfielder/flanker
I might have confused him with Richard Hamilton who was a good player in the 80s for WA ?
If so, what is the dossier on P Hamilton

1983
How many of the 78 group went on to play in the 1983 Premiership ?
I reckon at least 5 of them

Yeah, Mark Whitington was picked up from South. Mainly played Reserves for us. (Or Seconds as we called it then.)

Peter Hamilton was a very tough, fearless and dedicated small half-back/half-forward flanker who wasn't quite good enough for League level but stuck around and played a lot of Reserves footy as a 'depth' player. (44 games in 8 seasons). Fos Williams liked him more than the other coaches he played under, because of his approach.

6 of that 1978 playing list played in the 83 flag - Meuret, Morris, Summerton, Luders, Grosser, de Jong.
