Inattention? What weren't you watching? So how can you comment if you weren't watching?

Gees settle down, some of you blokes are a bit precious. I did watch the footage of what was on Youtube, I believe it was the whole game although may have just been portions. I didnt notice Robran as much as I'd expected as I'd heard how much he dominated, whether thats because I didn't hear his name called by the commentators, or I didn't recognise him in the footage as much as i expected, Im not sure. For the record I don't dispute at all that he was dominant and a clear BOG, its just I didn't notice him as much as I expected in the footage.

Are you sure that you didn't watch the highlights of 1971. The only available footage is the Channel 2 coverage and that is only edited highlights. You would have sworn that Port won that game they show all Port's nine goals and only 6 of North's. Yet if you look at the stats Robran was clearly best on ground in that game as well. Just listen to what Russell Ebert says about those two games. I watched the video of 1972 again last night (I know I need to get a life) and Robran was head and shoulders b.o.g.

If you don't think he dominated who do you think was b.o.g.

No, it was colour footage on Youtube so it was '72. '71 is black and white.

The issue is perhaps that there is only a portion of the game on Youtube, and it perhaps doesn't do Robran's game justice.

No worries, correct about 72 being in colour whereas 71 and 73 for that matter are black and white.

Seems a strange match up, that Port would put Eckermann on a bloke a foot shorter than him, and that there were likely to be blokes like Hofner and Giles who would have been much better match ups.

Also presuming Platten played part of his game on the ball, it sounds strange that Eckermann would then go into the midfield to shadow him.

I was there, will always remember the ball coming into the goal square at the southern end & Platts was there, one one on with Eckermann, shoulder to shoulder (sort of) & the Rat just edged him out & took a beauty!

Well, I would have done a Port list, and SANFL list, but the PAFC players listed all would make both.
Pound for pound someone like Bradley was as good as anyone during his time in the SANFL - 1981 - 1985. And therefore one of the best players I've seen.
Hodges the same - yes there were some great full-forwards - Davies, Luders, Nicholls, Evan, but Hodges was just incredible, because of his value to Port and his match-winning ability.

That's cool. We all have several players of our own clubs in our top 10 because we see more of them. Good list of players.

Hard alot about how great Barrie Robran, Malcolm Blight, Lindsay Head, Paul Bagshaw, & Neil Kerley from my family, and would have loved to see these guys play in their golden days.
They definately had hero status in our family discusions about State Footy. I saw a bit of Blight and Bagshaw, but was in their later years

I'm the same as you with Kerley and Head. Only saw them in their latter years and can only imagine how good they were. If anyone tells you how good Robran, Blight and Bagshaw were, believe them. Great, great players. It may sound a little condescending to younger footy fans, it's not to be, but I almost feel sorry for people who missed that era of football. Robran and Bagshaw's skills were exquisite, whilst Blight was raw, explosive, and brilliant.

How much would a young Robran, Blight or Bagshaw be worth on today's market? :)

Great stuff smithy ... I remember some of this as if it was yesterday.

Loved Wally May's commentary ... played Bagshaw ... played Bagshaw.

Certainly was a dead set champion.
