There should be a Jim/James Thompson (that's Thompson with a 'P') on the list. Not sure if the one you have is a different J Thompson or a mispelling of 'my' James Thompson. John is his brother who also played.

I bought him the "Pride of the Bay" book for his birthday last year and his name wasn't in the back with the list of players

Thanks for that. What year(s) did he play in, just to check if indeed he is already in the list?

Yeah but I thought he only played reserves for Norwood (in a premiership year??) - I'll have to ask him. Would have been early 70's at most.

From "The Men of Norwood" Jim Thomson (as spelt in the book) played 3 games in 1974. I'm not sure when he played for Glenelg - Adelaide Hawk noted that he also played for Norwood - he and Legs11 should know when.

Can confirm that James (Jim) Thomson played 3 games for Norwood in 74. He moved to Glenelg, where he then played another 9 games in 76-77

Thanks Legs. Does this mean that it is Thomson or is that a mistake somehow, and it really is Thompson?

Should also add, he had played 32 Reserves games by the end of the 75 season - a season when the Redlegs went top in both senior grades.

I'd go with Thomson -- certainly the way it's spelt in The Annual Reports.
Make that 33 Reserve games -- played another one in 76, before transferring.

RE: Jim Thompson

Don't go with 'Thomson' - it's definately Thompson! Don't forget the P!!! I'm his daughter so I can guarantee the spelling!

Are we talking about the blonde haired midfielder who captained the Norwood U17s in 1972, played 3 league games for Norwood then went to Glenelg? If so, it's amazing his name is spelt with a 'p' because it was always spelt Thomson in his time at Norwood. Wasn't there a ruckman named Thompson around the same time?

No - dark haired Thompson, who did play for Norwood before Glenelg. Mum reckons he also played a bit for Woodville - sh'es just called out that he was eihter a half back or a half forward. He's too old to have captained the under 17's in 1972. Mum also rekcons there weren't any other Thompsons or Thomsons playing at the same time. I'll try to get it from the horse's mouth when he decides to answer his mobile.
