Port v Norwood 1987, big margin to Norwood??

Postby GWW » Fri Mar 14, 2008 11:00 pm

Spelly

Can you confirm what year it was that Norwood smashed my team, Port, by about 100 points or so, i think it was 87 although could have been 86. I recall it was a double header, Centrals played another club in the early game. Do you have any details on this Port/Norwood game ie best player/goalkickers?

Thanks

Port 4.4 6.7 8.11 13.12 (90)

The other game was this:

Torrens 9.3 12.6 18.9 24.15 (159)
Central 4.4 7.9 9.13 12.17 (89)

Central kicked 12.17 the next week, as well.

Actually just on WT, i think they thrashed Port around the same era, at Footy Park, although i think that was 86. I probably wouldn't want to mention these games if we didn't win the flag in 88, 89 and 90

Yeah it was the 85 game i was thinking of, that was when Port was at their very worst in the 80's. WT had some good players back then though with 2 x Lindsay, Fotia, Robson, Christiansen etc etc.

Good call on the year GWW .. Honestly can't remember the game at all, although I remember watching Grenville play for Torrens v CDFC at Footy Park sometime in the 80's, so perhaps it was that day?

Amazed that I can't remember such a result particularly against the arch enemy - Might have to blame our club sponsor for that one :D

That would be the match, he kicked 8.1 and Scott Morphett was the best player.

Not the first time that a woman has said that to Spelly.

IIRC, Norwood has beaten Port twice by 100+ points, 1982 & 1997.

Probably the last time they had a full house on Anzac day too... bring back the Port v Norwood Anzac day clash for mine.. you might actually get some people to the game.. crowd was over 20,000 wasn't it?

Not quite 20,000.

Firstly:

Round 21 1982
Norwood 6.4 13.8 20.11 28.17 (185)
Port 2.3 3.7 8.9 10.13 (73)
Norwood, 17667

Round 5 1997
Norwood 2.6 8.8 12.17 21.23 (149)
Port 1.0 1.0 2.2 4.3 (27)
Adelaide, 18961

That is the highest minor round attendance for a match from 1991.

That would be the Round 1 1958 match, between Port and Norwood - 37,290 was the attendance.

In 1990 the record single match attendance at Football Park was registered between those clubs (36,390), in Round 2.

No, I'm pretty sure it was a Port Norwood Grand Final about that time at Adelaide Oval, before all the seating was put in and people stood on the mounds.

Edit: Ah... found it -
