Thought it would be best to post this question here.

With Alistair Clarkson now being a premiership coach in both the SANFL (Centrals) and AFL (Hawthorn), has this been done before? If so, when?

Mcalmanac and me were discussing this during the game. We couldn't think of anyone else.

As I posted in another thread, the closest I can think of is John Nicholls who coached Carlton to a flag in 1972, then Glenelg to a Grand Final in 1977.

It's not quite there either, but Alan Killigrew took Norwood to 2nd place in 1960 and 1961, and a night premiership for St Kilda one year (1956 keeps coming to mind there).

I know that when Mike Patterson won the flag at North in 1971 it was reported that he was the first ex-Victorian to win a flag in the SANFL.

Then when Neil Balme coached Norwood to the 1982 flag, a commentator stuck the mike under Balmey's nose and asked him how it felt to be the second Victorian to coach an SANFL premiership. His answer ... "I'm Western Australian mate". :)
