Spelly,

Can you find out the last time a team had 62+% for the regular season and failed to make the Big Dance?
I can't recall this ever happening...

Ian Mogridge mentioned this on ABC - 61.43% in the Minor Round is the highest to miss the GF. Others above 58% since 1931 are:

Sturt in 1973 - 61.12% (3rd)
Sturt in 1975 - 60.89% (4th)
Port in 1952 - 59.82% (3rd)
Sturt in 1971 - 59.75% (4th)
Norwood in 1995 - 59.10% (3rd)
Glenelg in 1980 - 58.91% (3rd)
South in 1966 - 58.72% (4th)
North in 1967 - 58.60% (3rd)
Port in 1961 - 58.52% (3rd)
Norwood in 2002 - 58.30% (3rd)
Norwood in 1937 - 58.12% (3rd)
South in 1965 - 58.12% (3rd)
North in 1990 - 58.02% (3rd)

In which of those years was the GF-missing team's percentage the highest in the league? Without looking at my notes, I'll wager that Glenelg's percentage was higher than the Blues' in 1973.

1961, 1966, 1967, 1973 and 1995. Glenelg had a % of 60.52 in 1973.

Nah, Norwood were 5th at the end of minor round and I think we knocked out West Torrens in the Elimination Final.
So spelly is correct once again!

Oh? I thought he was listing final placings not end of minor round ladder position.

Yeah I was aware that Norwood came from the Elimination final to make the GF, IIRC Torrens lost the double chance in the last minor round, Spelly?

Yes, in brackets is the major round placing. Sturts 14.5 (89) in the last quarter of Round 22 was good enough to take 3rd spot over West Torrens by 0.17%.

Cheers for all info.

I had suspected that it had to be close.
As the old adage goes, percentage means nothing at the commencement of the major round...
