Hey Spelly a question was raised on SL.org wondering pror to last Sunday when was the last time we played a league game without any current AFL listed players. The answer was the GF and I reckon we were the first SANFL club to play a GF without a current AFL listed player since 1990 is this true (pending you have the info in your database)???

off the top of my head for the early post Crows GFs, I make it:

1991 - North Tasker Hart, West Patterson Rehn
1992 - Port Hodges Brown Smith, Glenelg Jameson Rouvray Viska
1993 - Eagles Wiedeman Pesch??, Norwood - Rowe, Robran??
1994 - Brown, Chalmers??, Eagles Pesch, Wiedemann??

My memory starts to get hazy now

Anyone else can remember AFL listed players to play in GFs from 1995 on???

1991 - West, Lindner & Mickan played in GF & were on Crows list. Mickan actually won Crows B&F that year!!!

2003 - West, Cassissi & Koulouritis played & were on Ports list.

Stewy Dew played in one of Centrals flags & I amsure he would have been on Ports list. Also Guerra played in a Centrals flag while on Ports list.

Sure there is others!!

In last years GF didnt either Griffin or Giles play for Centrals & one of the Westhoff's?

...in 2000 not sure if Nathan Steinberner was still on Port's list, or was delisted at the start of the season
...and WWT had Rhett Biglands who might have been in exactly the same boat as Steiny
2001 Brent Guerra & Michael Stevens (Port), WWT Robert Shirley & Ken Macgregor (Adelaide)
2003 Brent Guerra [from Selion's list I would have thought either WA Ben Marsh or Ben Rutten was on an AFL list at the time]
2004 Stuart Cochrane (Port)
2005 Brad Symes (Port)
2007 Jonathon Griffin (Adelaide), NA Nick Gill (Adelaide) [not sure if Alan Obst was still on a rookie list etc...]
2008 Jonathon Griffin (Adelaide), Matthew Westoff (Port)

I don't recall seeing Jon Giles play in a GF for us, I might be mistaken in 2008.

The interesting GF was 2003 - take a look at the West players to either have either been with, in, or go on to play AFL footy - Cooney, Kouloritis, Rutten, Marsh, Rusca, Cassisi, Fisher, Porplycia (might even have been more).

Precisely, Thiele. There were something like 10 or 11 former, current or future AFL players in that team.
I rate it as our best GF erformance ever, as we had a quality bunch who beat an outstanding West outfit - the likes of Bradshaw, Donaldson, Richardson, Norman, Howard, Piasente etc... made it the highest calibre of opposition.

I can't go back that far, was still golfing in the 90's. I joined CDFC after Round 2, 2000 so I know the last decade pretty well.
I'll do some investigation. I'm 99.9% sure Dew only ever played in the 2000 GF.
