There was some talk at the time that the change in guernsey for the Bays was a factor but who knows?
I'm not sure it would have changed the result though.

seriously though i remember being there, around 38000 people there, and yes the2nd qtr cost us the game, or so my dad recalls, richmond went the knuckle in the 2nd term cleaning up cornes and marker. the jumper controversy was laughable, they tossed for choice of guernsey, we lost! i have always thought both sides should have worn state jumpers

I went to the game - Glenelg were matching Richmond all around the ground until midway through the 2nd quarter when Kevin Sheedy niggled a few Glenelg players and a few melees occurred. I remember a passage of play in front of me on the eastern side where Sheedy was chasing the ball and Cornes and Wayne Phillis running in from different directions cleaned up Sheedy. But Sheedy was cunning and before he got crunched tapped the ball free to a team mate (who Cornes & Phillis ignored) who then ran free with the ball to set up a goal. And because Sheedy saw the Glenelg players coming for him he was able to protect himself so the actual crunch didn't hurt him at all. Glenelg were just as talented as Richmond but they got outfoxed on the day.

They still do that in most major european soccer finals, if there is a jumper clash such as the champions league and FA Cup. Thats why Burnley had to wear their away kit in the coca cola playoff final.

Yes I attended this game as a young lad. Indeed Sheedy was the difference between the 2 sides. In any game where richmond seemed to be slipping a bit behind or look like they were in a bit of trouble, Hafey would drag Sheedy out of the back pocket and give him a run on the ball. Invariably Sheedy would niggle a few and the opposition seemed to lose focus . For those who never saw him play he was really only an average player but it was actions like this that made him a crucial player in a successful era at richmond. He was in the same vein as a Josh Carr or James Gowans these days.

isn't 19.16 to 16.19 backwards 91.61 to 61.91?

Did the first quarter have anything to do with the Bays losing? Kicking 5 goals instead of 8 or 9? Did Glenelg dominate the first quarter or just have a couple extra scoring shots?
