I was just talking about this game yesterday with a workmate when she brought a face cream out that smelt like Grandma's powder that she used to use on her face as in 86 I didn't have any face paint so did the next best thing and used my Grans lipstick and powder to make red and white vertical lines on my face, took bloody hours to get it off!! (Should have seen the looks I got on the O-bahn when I was travelling on that on the way to town that morning!)
Very disappointing day, went there expecting to win and got hammered, my old man despite being a Norwood supporter actually had tears because he was so disappointed for me.
Was struggling to get tickets for this game but eventually found a package with the Maylands Hotel which was front row in front of the grandstand. Bloody camera man was in our way all bloody day so half way through the 2nd quarter when Glenelg were miles up and he put the camera on me I casually gave him the finger, gotta love live TV, its amazing the amount of people I've told that story too and they've said "Oh, that was you, ha ha ha ha!" (it was on the C7 version not C2).
To make it harder 90% of my High School (Mitchell Park) barracked for Glenelg, but it made the following year all the more sweeter.
Definately one that got away for North and a definate choke but we did learn a valuable lesson that game (which we should have learnt the year before).

1985 I expected so I wasn't surprised when we want, Fueck it felt good, if it was any consolation to North supporters in Darwin they had the game scheduled from 2 pm to 5 pm. Forwhatever reason 5pm rocked up halfway through the last quarter and they have gone to a fishing show....

A very irate 14 year old gave Channel 8 in Darwin a HUGE serve down the phone, in between the tears...

1986 was a shock didn't expect it certainly very sweet, payback next year was a bitch.....

The passage of play in the second term where Tony Hall took an awkward mark in front of a North player, shot off a handball to Maxy Maynard before the crowd had time to clap, who then dobbed the ball *perfectly* in front of a goalward-streaming Tony Symonds still rates (in my mind) as the best passage of play ever seen in any football match anywhere and anytime.

... Wedgie giving the cameraman the finger rates a close second :D

I think you'll find that Maxy's pass was aimed at Garts (or it might have been Moose) Symo has just pinched it running "flat strap" in Ian Days, words.

I'm baised but the 1st 15 mins over the 2nd Quarter we were just on fire and produced some of the best running/play on football ever seen.

There is a very similar passage of play in the 89 VFL GF starting in the backpocket with Ayres and it finishes with Dunstall taking a mark on the 50 but missing it. Buckanara has two touches in the play and is sensational. Hawthorns play in the 1st Quarter of that GF was sensational too

The pass to Hally came on the back of some typical hard Stringer efforts to create the turnover on Norths Half Forward line.

From that day I clearly remember that I...

Was still seething over Salisbury's 'tackle' of Anderson in the qualifying final three weeks before.

Was shocked at quarter time after Glenelg opened with seven goals.

Fully expected North to hit back hard in the second quarter.

Knew the game was over halfway through the second quarter.

Glenelg's 1st quarter and especially the first 5-10 minutes of the 2nd quarter
was as good as football as you could wish to see.
Memory serves me that Tony Hall went absolutley ape droppings in the 2nd.
Mmmmm... looks like I'll be getting out the old videos this weekend.

Beaten you to it Mr 66, Mark to Hall was off a kick from Bone, Who was suspposed to be standing Maxy Maynard that game....

Wedgie, you looked so cute wearing your Nanna's lipstick, Have you still got the hat??

You can see it was a pre-arrange plan by the Bays to belt Poynton and Antrobus anytime they went near the ball. Also if they got a mark or free kick in the back half scrag North Adelaide and give away the 15 m. Slow North Adelaide down so they couldn't get their run on play going.

GREAT DAY!
Most memorable part:
Kicking the footy in the car park after the match.
One of my mates lobbed a torp straight through some poor bastards open driver side window!
Not once...but twice!

ha ha, the hat I forgot about those, was it the clapper one or the one that gives the finger, I know my mate next to me had a clapper hat on.
I picked up one that gives the finger similarly at the show that year.
