Adelaide Hawk and I having been doing a bit of research on the Norwood-North teams of the war years. We know that PercMcCallum coached them in 1942 and Jack Smith in 1943 and 1944, but AH raised a good point -
"Who coached the other combine sides during the war?"
I honestly don't know so I thought I'd throw the question out there to see if anyone here knows.
(Magpiespower I am looking at you :D )

LOL!

Shine Hosking coached Port-Torrens between 1942-1944.

When people talk about great coaches in the SANFL, Hosking's name rarely, if ever, comes up.

But his record is magnificent.

Excluding the War Years he coached teams to five premierships (Port 1921, 1928, Torrens 1933, Port 1936, 1937) and four runners-up (West 1922, Port 1929, 1930, 1938).

The Bob Hank book says that "Shine" Hosking was the coach in 1944 and Mal Drury his assistant.

Cheers for that. I'd forgotten that Shine had coached Torrens to the 33 flag as well. It's a great record coaching record. You are right that he is overlooked as a coach in a similiar way to how Ken Farmer is. Probably because they were such great players they are remembered more for that.
Interesting that Reval coached and played for Port in 41 and played for PA-WT in 42 but didn't coach.

Reakon Bull Reval might have been a reluctant coach.

Had Bob Quinn not gone off to fight in WWII, Reval probably wouldn't have ever coached the club.
