Black & White shorts

Spelly, When did the SANFL adopt the black/home, white/away shorts policy?

I actually don't know, to be honest. I remember this has come up somewhere in here, but no-one knows the actual year. Must have been in the 50s.

Couldn't remember whether I had brought up this subject or not.

Bruce Nyland used to tell the story of when he first played league footy, he was still eliglbe to play Under 19s. This one particular day he thought he was in the Under 19s but when he turned up to play they told him he was playing league, so he hurried over to the league game. I think the game was at Norwood Oval.

He changed and was standing there with the other players when he noticed Fos Williams looking at him. He came over and asked if Bruce noticed anything different about himself from the others. Suddenly Bruce realised he had packed his black shorts for the under 19s instead of white ones.

When was it that Central changed from the blue shorts at home games and white for away to just white shorts every week ?

Mid 90's wasn't it ?
