SANFL at History Week

Postby fish » Mon May 10, 2010 9:04 pm

Flicking through the program for History Week 2010 I noticed two events that may be of interest to followers of SANFL:

The first is the Red and Blue Legends Tour of Norwood Oval on 27th May, featuring a tour of the oval with some past players including Glen Rosser, Mike Coligan and Roger Woodcock. Details can be found at: http://www.historyweek.sa.gov.au/events ... rwood-oval

The second is a Tour of Prospect Oval and Grandstands on Saturday 29th May, which includes the history room of the North Adelaide Football Club. Details can be found at: http://www.historyweek.sa.gov.au/events ... randstands. North have the bye that weekend which works out perfectly. :D

These free events look fantastic so I suggest you get in before they book out.

Admittedly my knowledge of the NFC isn't great, or at least not as good as the average Norwood fan, but I didn't realise Robert Oatey coached Norwood. I looked it up on the official Norwood site, and noticed he coached Norwood in the late 60's/early 70's. So obviously he coached against his father Jack at Sturt. Thats something i'd never noticed before, and presumably would be very rare in a top level competition (can't imagine it would have ever happened in the VFL before).

This may be a dumb question, but did Haydn Bunton and HB Jnr ever coach against one another?

Senior died in 1955 so no.
Congratulations to the Norwood lads on putting together such a great show for History Week. We were planning a weekend of exhibitions and so forth but everyone was too board ;)

Charlie "Chooka" May coached Glenelg from 1955 to 1957, and his son Wally "Chooka" May coached Sturt in 1956.
