Tredrea's triple Whammy?

Postby rd » Fri Jul 16, 2010 9:26 pm

Port Magpies lost to Nwd by 122 pts on Anzac Day 1997.
Port Magpies lost the 1997 Grand Final to Nwd by 73 pts.
Port Power lost the 2007 AFL Grand Final to Geelong by 119 pts.

These games represent Port's largest AFL & SANFL losing margins & also their worst SANFL Grand Final loss.

Is it true that Warren Tredrea played in all 3 games?

It's highly possible. Tredrea certainly played in both Grand Finals, and only played one AFL game in the first season. In 1997, he played 16 games with Port Magpies.

Yes, Tredrea played in the Anzac Day massacre. He was very young, had a full head of hair and wore number 56. The funny thing watching the game in replay is how Tredrea was a veritable unknown at the time and he would do something without the commentators noticing him. How times have changed :)

The other funny thing was Kym Dillon calling the game. He obviously had no idea who most of the players were and was calling names out of the budget, but picking the wrong team.

I was there that day, a great crowd, great atmosphere, and Norwood were brilliant. Every now and then, the club goes all out for a flag ... pity we don't do it more often.

SANFL Mismatch of the century: Norwood's midfield was McIntosh, Jarman and Rowe versus Port Adelaide's midfield of Carruthers, Bamford and McGuinness :)

True.

Played in all three.

Went into the ruck in the '97 GF after Chalmers went down injured.

Also played in the 1996 SANFL grand final and 2004 AFL grand final... ;)
