Toyota Ads - SANFL Highlights!

We've all seen the Toyota TV ads re-enacting various AFL/VFL moments, and yes they are enjoyable.

If we can remember VFL moments though (like the latest ad featuring Peter Hudson moments of the early 1970s), surely we could an ad featuring a remarkable SANFL moment or two?

So in case anyone from the Toyota marketing machine just happens to stumble across this thread, what ideas can we suggest?

(NB - I know they usually feature the retired player revisiting the moment, but in this case, lets put up all the moments we want considered for a Toyota ad!).

One that springs to mind for me is the legendary story of Stan Wickham. A newspaper journo wrote that Wickham would need a bike to keep up in a forthcoming game. As the players entered the arena at Norwood Oval, they were all running except Stan - he chose to ride a bike out on to the ground that day.

Interesting thread :)

- perhaps the incident where Kerley and a few other West players cut the goal post down the next morning after the 58? grand final. I think the surname of the player who hit the post was Richardson.

- Gallagher lining up for goal in 78 grand final after "that" free

John Wynne visiting Jack Oatey in the coaches box in the '78 GF.

Fabulous Phil rubbing Studley's face in the mud at the Parade in the mid 70's.

Robbie Muir jumping the fence at Thebarton.

Steve Sims spilling blood in the '91 GF.

Norths only goal in the '89 GF (because I was there and missed it).

Studley's mark and goal in the '73 GF.

Snout hitting the post for goal no. 50 in 1975 at Glenelg against Central.

Craig Balme and Tim Evans at the start of the '84 GF.

The list goes on ...

Yes, that bike belonged to Norwood Head Trainer Tiger Potts. One problem with your suggestion Squawk is it would be hard to get Stan to take part in the commercial.

Another problem is that Stan's bike was a far better engineered machine than anything which has ever rolled off Toyota's production line.

Paul Bagshaw kicking a checkside goal (I think at Adelaide Oval) in his jockstrap would make a good re-enactment.

The train siren ending the Centrals v Sturt game at Elizabeth in 2003.

The Norwood timekeeper sounding the siren 30 seconds early in 2006.

Keith Thomas's mark
Or the Tregenza/Davey clash in the 97 GF, could make for some carnage if you had a couple of Hilux's going at each other

Darren Harris lining up for goal after the siren v Port in 1984.

Stephen Knight giving the 2 fingered salute to the Bulldog faithful at the Ponderosa and getting several thousand back from the same year.

Anything to do with Grenville.

Fred Bills (I think) jumping the fence and sitting in the crowd after a player count had been called.

That was Norm Dare. It was Freddie Bills' last game and they were bringing him onto the ground to replace a stretchered player. Loveday called for the count and players ran for their lives. The silly thing was, if they took a count, there would have only been 18 players on the field because they forgot one thing ... they let the stretched player leave the field :)

The player on the stretcher was Johnny Cassin, and he was certainly still on the ground when Loveday called for the count, but the umpire, Robin Bennett, didn't have his wits about him.
I don't know if it was Bills' last game, it may have been, but I have a hazy memory that it was his 300th. Can any Torrens fan confirm?

Some great ads already nominated.

Reakon you could get some mileage out of Ray Huppatz's mark against Norwood in '83.

The star of any ad about '78 would have to be Des Foster.

Some recent state game memories...

- The mosquito fleet running riot, '83
- Kernahan's ten against the Vics, '84
- Tony Hall's freak checkside, '92
