Just wondering if any one has any recollections of the Ansett Cup (unsure of which sponsor it was) match between Woodville West Torrens and the Sydney Swans at Football Park - as well as any available stats!

Yeah, I remember going.
It was more of a trial game to give the AFL knockout losers round an even number rather than the Eagles being part of the Ansett Cup.
This was when the Eagles were reigning premiers and Sydney were going through their real slump.
We kicked the first five goals of the game, and looked a million dollars.
Remember Ron Barrassi waving his arms around at 1/4 time. It looked like he said to his players to have a look at the empty stands, you blokes are better than this competition if this is all the amount of people turning up to this game.
But we were flogged after this, think the final margin was 70 points and we only kicked two more goals for the game.
We didn't have as strong a side as the premiership with a few missing through AFL draft and injuries, probably a couple players playing their first trial games.
Crowd was around 5000, and I was disappointed as thought were going to 15,000 with the novelty of an SANFL team playing against and AFL team.

Can you recall if WWT played a previous match before that one? I have this idea that they won a match in the Ansett Cup at some stage, yet could well be mistaken!

I was there too. I had the score somewhere but can't find it still! It was something like 15.17 to 8.6 and the crowd was 8 thousand odd.

i remember going, i think they invited wwt to play the game because there was 15 teams in the vfl whoops afl

at that stage & needed a team to even it out.........if only they could have done a north adelaide & made the semis or whatever it was they made many years ago & wouldn't the afl have been very embarrassed about the outcome

You are exactly right, it was because there were 15 AFL teams.
In 1986 North beat Melbourne at Footy Park and then a full strength Collingwood by 8 points at Waverley to make the semi finals before being absolutely thrashed by Hawthorn in the semis.

Certainly closer than Port v Sturt in 2003.
Mind you, we had a fair team back then.
Those were the days...

I recall going to a Port v Essendon game at Footy Park in about 1992-93 as well. Essendon only won by about 14-15 points if I recall correctly.

I don't think Collingwood were full strength...

I don't think Collingwood were full strength...
In the replay the Victorian commentators Peter Landy, Bob Skilton and Lou Richards mention that Collingwood are at full strength. In the last quarter when Collingwood got 15 points in front they condascendingly mention what a good effort by North to push a full strength Collingwood for 3 1/2 quarters. North then kicked the last 3 goals 5 behinds of the match to win by 8 points. The pre match articles in the Melbourne Age and Melbourne Sun also mention how Collingwood were at full strength and were going to decimate North.
