Sounds like 2010 doesn't it? Well, this letter appeared in the Advertiser on the 21st of September, 1928:

Been doing some ghost writing there Spelly? Being serious, it seems that more things change, the more they stay the same.

A visionary from 1928. The message is clear, our obsession with making the game faster detracts from the pure skills of the game as well as the quality of the contest. We know this .. and yet we still allow it to happen. And this doesn't only apply to Aussie Rules Football.

It's not the first time Spelly or someone has unearthed something like this from decades ago where, as Mr66 said, the more things change the more they stay the same.
I recall one old article was complaining about umpires and another was complaining about too many rule changes. Both 80-100 years ago! I thought the game had stayed the same until Demetriou and Anderson got hold of it

Cricket is the obvious one. They want the game over as soon as possible, so once again the skills suffer, batsmen getting out to poor strokes, etc.
