Hey Spelly
was watching the warriors 84 vid the other day and noticed in most of the highlights that Blighty was dominant (no real surprises)
my records tell me though that he wasnt leading goalkicker that year (I think Bob Beecroft kicked 70)
i was intersted to know some stats about the warriors that year
eg some of there scores and bightys statistics and whether he played all year or not
I know he had clearance issues at the start of '83 and obviously dominated the league in '85
would love to know more about warriors in '84
Cheers

If you asked me about 1985, I could give you Malcolm Blights round by round tallies, but I don't have such info for 1984. There are some matches I do have goalkickers for however:
Round 9:
Wood: K. Harris 4.3, Beecroft 3.1, Hearne 3.0, Heaney, Koop 2.2, Haylock, Stanton 2.1, Scheer 2.0, Fuller, Wright 1.1, Parker, T.McDonald, Clift 1.0, Rushed 0.1.
W.A: Luders 6.4, Smith 5.4, Morris 4.1, Falting 2.1, Rechner 2.0, Fielke 1.2, Williams, Mickan, Grosser 1.0, Herbert, McKinnon, Bennett 0.1.
Round 14:
S.A: Harris 7.4, Schneebichler 5.1, Fairclough, Slattery 5.0, Darren Kappler 4.2, Naley, Would 4.0, D.Hewitt 3.3, Dewhirst 2.1, Rushed 0.5.
Wood: Wright 4.1, Koop 4.0, Beecroft 3.3, Jacquier 3.1, Heaney 2.1, Jolly, Wood 1.2, Sewer 1.0, Harris 0.3, Lynch 0.1.
Round 17:
W.A: Luders 7.2, Grosser 4.1, Conlen 3.0, Morris 2.3, Weidemann, Smith 2.1, Watson, McKinnon, Fielke 2.0, Herbert, Bennett 1.1, Miller 1.0, Lamb 0.1, Rushed 0.4.
Wood: Beecroft 8.0, Jacquier 3.2, McDonald, Harris, Hearne 2.0, Blight 1.2, Koop, Wright, McLeod 1.1, Fuller, Haylock 1.0, Rushed 0.3.
Woodville were on top of the ladder after Round 1; the 2nd and last time they would be there.
Woodville would not win again until Round 9, kicking 5 goals in time on of the last quarter to defeat West Adelaide.
Round 14 had the highest aggregate for one quarter for both teams 21.6 (132) in the last quarter. Woodville kicked 11.4 in that quarter - a club record.
In Round 15, this would be the first match for premiership points under lights for Woodville.
The following round saw Woodvilles first win at Woodville after 27 losses. Round 17 1980 was the previous win.
Round 20 1980 was the lowest scoring match Woodville would participate in.

Blight only kicked 37 goals in the 1984 minor round, and a further 7 in cup matches. I would think he missed a few matches mid-season.
Round by round tallies: 2, 3, 1, 6, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 2, 4, 1, 1, 5, 2, 2, 6.
Kevin Harris kicked 41 goals and a further 5 in cup matches.
Round by round: 4, 2, 2, 3, 0, 2, 2, 5, 4, 2, 2, 1, 2, 0, 3, 3, 2, 1, 0, 1, 0, 0.
Beecroft kicked his 70 in the SANFL minor ound.
Round by round: 0, 0, 4, 5, 7, 5, 7, 0, 3, 8, 4, 7, 4, 3, 0, 5, 8, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0.
** A (0) does not necessarily means they played and kicked 0 goals, they may have missed all or some of those matches.

Spelly, are you sure it was the last time Woodville were top? I thought they may have been for a couple of weeks during 1987.
Interesting that they played West twice at Richmond.
Also that they knocked off both the previous years Grand Finalists. Is this the only time the previous years wooden spooner has done this? Know it has been discussed on another thread how far West and Sturt fell that next year.
Remember watching the Round 16 game on a Sunday on telly. Do you have the quarter scores for this game, because IIRC it was pretty wet and reasonably high scoring given the conditions.

Great Info guys
Thanks
Very interesting season all round with Norwood starting so badly and finishing so well and North also dropped out of the five from the previous year but from what i remember were more competitive than their win/loss record suggests

In 1987, Woodville were in 2nd spot for a total of 6 weeks, but never first. Only in Round 2 1972 and Round 1 1984.
Woodville defeated the previous years Grand Finalists in 1985 and 1986. Also Sturt defeated Port and Central in 1997. They are a couple I can find, so it may not be that rare. Generally if the wooden spooner has a much better year the following year.
Round 16 1984
W'ville 7.5 10.9 13.12 17.16 (118)
Sturt 2.2 7.7 11.8 15.10 (100)
