West Torrens 1987 Cup Games

Postby Mark_Beswick » Sat Sep 01, 2012 1:56 pm

Just finished entering all SANFL club stats for season 1987 Escort Cup using a primary source (Football time hand notes from reporters 1897-1992) BUT West Torrens was the only one which had errors which I cant work mathematically for the five rounds at this stage - It has many errors although I think I have the Whyala Game solved in Rd 2. Even the West Torrens annual report misses two players and their stat page does not add up correctly. Woolford and M Turner were missed. I checked John Storers stats, but his Escort Cup stats match the annual reports and I dont blame him as working these games out is a mine-field!

Has anyone got programes, videos or notes for any of the 1987 West Torrens Cup Games? Viewing them may confirm players missed. The SANFL never kept the player sheets for these games OR the programes for escort cup games.

Failing any videos or past supporters having programes with pen marks from game day indicating players dropping in or out, I need to contact the players below to verify possible debut games which will assist completeing the puzzle. Tis is how I found Woolfords league debut v PA at Whyalla.

Any help in finding Keith Baker, John Vieceli, Neil and Mark Turner, Mat Wormald and Grant Eyles. Any ideas where these gents are would save me lots and lots of phonecalls. I am starting to sound like one of those Indian Telemarketers :)

We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Cheers Holden78

Spoke To Mat Wormald yesterday - He played the whyalla game which means I now have 23 for that game so someone drops out - yikes
Spoke to Neil Turner - he played game1 v Glenelg - stood S. Salisbury - So at least I was able to delete his name from one of the other four cup games which was handy.

Tried two M. Turners (Whyalla and Murray Bridge - no luck with those numbers!) - Looks like the Elec Rolls next time I visit the state library
Got a number to TRY for Eyles but it rings out (Probably thinks I am an Indian Call centre - I guess its not far from the truth - I am a pest)

I now know I need to find contacts for John Morgan Cunningham, Darrin and Dale Wilson, Mark Turner, Keith Baker (Darwin....?), Grant Eyles and Vieceli.
Making progress!

Cheers Holden08 - You are correct - Gawler fire brigade!

Rang Grant Eyles - lives Victoria - played v PA in Whyalla game
Have found 6 Keith Bakers in SA on Elec Rolls - none in Northern territory... The Keith Baker in millicent is the Port player - I had heard he went to Thailand but will see if former teammates can help

Mark Turner is the odd one - Footy times has him playing 1 game in 1987 (born14-6-65) from Pooraka BUT Sturt in 1990 have a Mark Turner same DOB from Sturt Juniors - The footy budget in 1990 has no mention of previous games played for Mark Turner. Also, Mark Turner doesnt appear in any torrens reserves games in 1987

I am now wondering if Torrens did have a mark turner - could be an error? Have a few mark turners from the elec rolls to see if they have phone numbers in the white pages.
Seems John Vieceli might be a physio at welland - will investigate
Have a number for John Cunningham, Dale Wilson and Darrin Wilson - Will call soon
