I attended every GF from 85 to 90 (the only other one i attended was 99). As a neutral supporter, those 3 GF's between Glenelg and North (85 to 87) had everything - brilliance and biffo, and incredibly in all 3, the winning side kicked at least 20 goals. In 87 i'm sure the whole SA football community would have been thinking "oh no, not again, the Bays to flog the Roosters once more...!!", but North produced a great effort, and i think this was the game that stamped Darren Jarman as a mercurial freak, especially around goals, some of the goals he kicked that day needed to be seen to be believed!! He then produced similar goals for the next 15 or so years.

As a Port supporter, my personal favourite was 88, simply because it was the first GF I'd seen the Magpies win live, and it was the end of a 7 year drought. Certainly looked doubtful whether or not Port were going to win early, but i seem to remember two shots for goal that were quite influential - 1 was David's Brown's "lucky" goal which had a fortunate bounce in the goalsquare, the second was Jim West missing from 10 metres out straight in front.

90 was very satisfying, for a number of reasons, but mainly because my side managed to win the last flag in the SANFL "as we knew it".

I've seen footage of most GF's of the last 50 years (mainly referring to ones i wasn't old enough to remember or were before i was born), but would love to see more of the 71 and 72 games, despite my side being beaten by Robran, oops i mean North. I've seen a little bit of this at the state library, but these are 2 games i would have liked to have seen more of. From what i can tell, Robran was at his peak around that period of time, would be interesting to know how much of this footage still exists. Wouldn't it be great if one of the commercial stations (or the ABC for that matter) showed some classic GF's in a marathon before maybe the AFL or SANFL GF. I think it was the old ACE station which regularly used to replay games from the mid to late 60's, although the 65 and 66 games are the ones which seem to stick in my mind.

We might have to chat GWW, I have 72 in full in colour on DVD and also a DVD of highlights of 71 and 72.
Also have a VHS of 71 in full somewhere too.

I've only got the quarter by quarter scores and attendance for the GFs' before 1931.

The attendance for 2004 was 24,207 and 2005 was 28,637.
