Interstate matches in the 1920's

Postby Footy Chick » Mon Sep 30, 2013 8:25 pm

I was in Broken Hill last week and in the Silverton Jail museum, there was a room dedicated to local football clubs .

One of the photo's (which I did take a photo of but can't figure out how to get it on here) and it says it was an interstate game between Glenelg v Broken Hill, played in on July 28, 1928 at Jubilee Oval. Wether it's Jubilee Oval in Adelaide or Jubilee Oval in Broken Hill is the other question. Given Glenelg were named first, perhaps it was played at the showgrounds?

It didn't show a final score or who won. I wonder if there is any other documentation regarding this game.

Jubilee Oval in Adelaide disappeared after the last game was played there in 1921 thus it would be Jubilee Oval at Broken Hill which is still at Broken Hill to this day.

Jubilee Oval in Adelaide was roughly where the North east corner of Adelaide University is today.

I have now found this article from the Broken Hill Miner from Agust 1928 which highlights the visit of Glenelg to Broken Hill.
