RIP Barry Norsworthy

Unfortunately Barry suffered a huge heart attack over the weekend & couldn't be saved.
He may have been short in stature but was huge in courage & determination.
Made his league debut in 1969,
club leading goalkicker in 1974 & 1975,
represented SA against Tassie & Victoria,
Best & Fairest in 1976,
runner up Magarey Medal in 1977,
had a stint with Melbourne between 1977 & 1979, then returned to Central,
attained playing life membership in 1980,
158 league matches, 178 goals,
One of our best ever.

I am confused a lot these days, but wasn't he also a football journalist after he retired from footy?

There was a game at Norwood Oval, Barry in the centre vs Phil Carman, both sides going goal for goal, Barry ripping the ball from the centre, then Carman. Some of the most exciting footy I've ever seen.
I got to know Barry for a year or so just after Ansett collapsed. Barry was one of the many employees who didn't receive any of their entitlements - including backpay - for a few years. In typical style he just battled through it, enrolled at TAFE and got a job in IT/telecomms. A really nice bloke. RIP Barry.
