Early Aussie Rules in England
Barrie Robran
04/12/2006

In 1916 there was a game of football played in London between SA and Vic contingents of soldiers.

Attached is a report in the Times Monday, Jan 31, 1916 .

I particularly like the reporter's attempt to describe the game of Australian rules .

I thank History Committeeman, Mark Gilbert, for forwarding this item and allowing me to share with readers.

From what I've read, the game was going along quite well before the 1st World War
in the old dart with strongholds in South Africa and Canada as well.
Blame the dickheads in Sarajevo for our game being crushed internationally.
Their loss, we have our game their've got soccer.

nice read....i like the part about how its a 'fast' game..in 1916

for a foreign land describing the game in 1916 is pretty close to how we explain it now
