Ben Hart to set a new record?

Ben's last league game for North was in 1991, if he plays with North his next league game will be in 2007.
This is the record at North, surely this would be a record throughout the whole SANFL, I'd be interested if anyone could beat a 16 gap between league games?

John McInnes had a 15-16 year break from memory.

The longest gap at Glenelg is Tony McGuinness - 13 years between 1985 and 1998.

PS I told Bryce Gibbs that he has to come back to Glenelg in 2021 to captain us to a premiership in our 100th Anniversary Year. That would be a 15 year break and he would be 32 then. Interesting that father Ross liked that idea - he wants to see Bryce come back and finish his career where he started - at home at Glenelg.

PPS Hooray for this being my 500th post!

It would have been only 14 at the most; he played 18 matches between 1956 and 1970.

This topic came up when Nigel Smart played in 2004 - a 14 year break from his last with South in 1990.

John McInnes' 1st game was the 1956 1st Semi Final, his second game was Round 1 1970 v Port Adelaide, so it would have been more like 13 years, 6 months.

What about John Platten? His would have been around the mark as well.

John Platten played with Hawthorn from 1986 to 1997.

wasn't there a port player in the 30's or thereabouts that had 15-20 year break & made a comeback aged 48 ??

I have a feeling that may have been Shine Hosking but I don't have any details.

I think I heard that he only sat on the bench at 48, but I stand to be corrected.

Shine Hosking retired in 1921. Came back in 1927 and played two games and he also famously sat on the bench for one game in 1936 (at the age of 48 ). It looks like Ben Hart will have the new record provided of course he actually gets out onto the paddock at some stage next season.

It's not really much of a record though, is it LL? I mean, it would be different had he not been playing all that time (ala John McInnes), but he's been playing AFL in the interim period. Moving back to the SANFL after years of AFL is hardly earth shattering stuff. Is it a record that would mean a great deal?

I reckon if he had been available Ben may have scored one or two games with the Roosters between 92 and last year.
It's more a quirky stat than an actual record.
