Just browsing through my GFC annual report, and looking through the hall of fame inductees.
There is one Glaring omission.
While the hell hasnt Neville Caldwell been inducted yet???
I'm sure his time will come eventually, but in my opinion he should be in there already.
265 games, a premiership, not sure how many goals but always seemed to be good for one or two before heading down back later in his career.
Was a gun on a wing, sharing ruck duties or on a half back flank.
Nice bloke too.
Could possibly have played 300 if not sniped by Granger in a GF.
What do blokes reakon? Bay fans?

He kicked a couple bags up forward too!
258 career goals
'Knuckles' Kerley's entire '73 Premiership team deserves Hall of Fame induction...
Of course I'm showing my bias here!

I think Glenelg fans would rate Caldwell higher than opposition fans. I condsider Caldwell had reasonable skills, was a good and loyal servant of the club, but always considered his approach to be a little on the "soft" side. Doesn't really surprise me he's not in the Glenelg Hall of Fame. Those spots should be reserved for the great players in the club's history, and I really don't think Caldwell deserves to be elevated to that status.

Did Twiggy Caldwell ever play State football?
I'm with Adelaide Hawk. A good League player, but not an all time great.

He was one of the nominations (there was 42 in 2006) but only 2 get inducted each year.
Neville Caldwell
1970-81 265 games 258 goals
1 state game.
Forward Pocket/Ruckman
1973 premiership
Versatile, highly-skilled and quick for his size (6ft 3in), he was a consistent player for 12 seasons and a key member of the 1973 premiership team.
Looking through the Glenelg Hall of Fame most others have higher credentials such as B&F winners, more state games, but Snout Macfarlane virtually has the same credentials as Twiggy with only 1 stage game and 1 premiership although playing more games (306), John Seebohm never even made the State side and is in there too (319 games). Could be argued that Twiggy was better credentialed than Hall of Famer Laurie Rosewarne who only played 169 games with 1 state game.

Agree with Hawk and Mac. A good player (possibly even VERY good) but not an all time great.
As an aside Tiggy Caldwell and Peter Carey came into the place where I was working (in late 1985) to sell us a Coke Machine. Being late 1985 I took one look at Peter Carey and said (very tongue in cheek) "You can get out for a start". They just laughed and we had a great chat about footy. Both were very nice blokes.

See this thread on Snouts for some discussion on who is/isn't in the Hall of Fame.

Caldwell is definitely up there among the best 10 or so players who are not in th HoF, but I would have been quite surprised if he had already been inducted - his record does not compare to those who are already in.

What is he up to these days?
He used to run a sports shop in Blackwood but sold up not long after Granger biffed him - he used to spend a lot of time in the dark due to migraines brought about by being on the wrong end of Granger that day.

I was at the game when twiggy's leg snapped like a twig thus ending the career of someone I dont really care about. It was a pity it ended like that tho.

any bloke who plays 250+ games in the 70s has to have something going for him, there was a bit of a perception that he was "soft" as they call it, twiggy just didnt want to get hurt thats all - no crime in that, add that to the fact that he played in a strong team adds credence to his ability but having said all that he doesnt jump out at me as a hall of famer. Granger what a waste of space

No, it says he was a good player in a good team. How good would he have been at a not-so-good team? He was hardly a prime mover.

depends which way you look at it, what i am saying is that he didnt struggle to make a strong league side, might have one a string of b and f's at lower clubs who knows
