1964 Grand Final on ABC 2

Postby am Bays » Wed Jan 11, 2006 7:37 pm

For those of you who haven't seen the forward programing for Late Night Legends, Tuesday January 24 at 10:45 EDST -(not sure if ABC2 in Adelaide is 30 mins behind EDST) "the Bloody Wog", Lex Marinos, will be hosting the 1964 SANFL Grand Final South Adelaide v Port Adelaide - can Kerley win the flag for South in his first year there after the Panthers were bottom the year before?

I for one will be watching as it will be the only time I get to watch the peppercorners win a flag on a TV channel rather than on a video.

On a serious note, I for one will be emailing ABC to say what a great show Late Night Legends is, With a bit of encouragement they will play more SANFL Grand finals in the coming weeks, hopefully not 69, 70, 74, 77, 81, 82, 88, 90 or 92!!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Oops, I forgot to include 75 in my last sentence, for obvious reasons I don't bag Eagles supporters for their recent Grand Final record!!!

I hope it is better than tonight's Late Night Legends - it was supposed to start at 10:45 Adelaide time, but all I am getting is a blank screen with the ABC2 logo on it! :?

I was asked by a South Supporter if it's the 15 minutes available in the video shops, or the whole game .... ?

Have a feeleing that it will be the black and white 15 minute version. I have a video of it and the only thing I can say apart from the pleasing result of the game is that television coverage/production has certainly come a long way since '64.

I've got a copy too. I can't remember it snowing at Adelaide Oval before or since.

You North supporters can bugger off now, it is the 71 GF on ABC 2 Port v North

Spirit of 64 you were right, 64 GF only went for 10 mins

Christ that was lucky, I set ABC2s Legends to tape every night on my Foxtel IQ since I found out the 64 GF was going to be on and the Info for tonights program only mentions the 64 GF. I'll be putting this one onto disc despite already having the 71 GF on disc. Hopefully more SANFL will be on this program and I'll leave the series link on.

The quality of the '64 GF was damn good for something that old. Very very clear - been edited and mastered I'd say. Pity it's all of about 11 minutes :(

'71 on now. Seems grainier than '64!

Is this going to be the whole game?

Is this the Rothmans video you are talking about, or is there another version? The commentary on those things are the pits. I laughed at the comment that Neil Kerley came over from "The West" to coach the Panthers. Makes it sound like he's from Western Australia :)
