Seems strange that we are happy to run 4 grades in the men's competition, yet in Women's first grade one of the clubs in the biggest growth areas in the state pulls out of the competition.
Something seriously wrong with the thinking about the way we can progress cricket in this state.
Why don't we change tack, let's forget about an eight team competition and change the culture of the Redbacks, more importantly the old boys club that still permeates selection of teams and squads in this state.
Will we win a shield in the 21st century?

They do everything you want a grade club to do - strong through the grades, lots of home-grown cricketers, strong women's program, strong junior program, produce state players. How could they devise a system to demote that club but reward clubs that went on a recruiting spree?
Could they not have had a more holistic look at club health and performances over time?

Brilliant post, absolutely spot on. All four junior teams in Grand finals last season with three premierships so will have massive depth. Will win Div 2 in a canter, and as Aerie said will be a contender in the white ball comps. Will only be a one year hiatus for them that’s for sure.
Feel I might be re quoting this post next season with West Torrens, with all five State players out will be very weak and fear relegation, just doesn’t seem right

Couldn't agree more TC. No consideration given for long term success and sustainability. One year with a "first past the post" reward to include club(s) who forked out $$$. The one bad year that Sturt had was the year which has cost them. Agree Eags - they'll be back in Div 1 next year - along with Northerns (looking at their side on paper).
I stand corrected but I heard this whole 2 division concept was the brainchild of one T Nielsen? Anything with his involvement has zero credibility and another example of the lameness of the SACA and their Board to deal with him!!

The Division 2 teams will have another medal - currently unnamed- to play for in their own best and fairest.
The other 1st grade medals (Fielding and Wicket-Keeping) are probably (but officially TBD) going to be a joint medal over the 2 divisions.

not sure West torrens are "doing everything you want a grade club to do" - they aren't even fielding 4 teams this season so lets not get ahead of ourselves

Just getting in a year early - no 4th Grade next season and one less junior team, let’s face reality that 4th Grade is made up of old farts that should be retired, fill ins who will play at home only, lads up from Juniors who are never going to play 1st Grade. Given them a chance to go back to their local clubs like Grange and Fulham etc and play a level of cricket more their standard. You seen the standard of 4th Grade lately, is diabolical! Got a third Womens team playing in ATCA with all the numbers. Think WT is definitely a grade club that has been doing all the right things for many, many years.
