Adelaide Hills Cricket (Hills, A&EH, TV)

Local cricket is the go here. Any talk about local comps, grade cricket, etc.

Postby bobby davis » Tue Apr 03, 2007 11:48 am

super comp wouldnt work, would just end up with all second rate clubs being relegated to b grade and end up with most hills clubs (minus happey valley, basket range etc) plus maybe 1 a&eh and 2 TV clubs in it. would it really be convenient someone like happey valley going all the way out to langhorne creek or milang to play a game of cricket?

I meant more along the lines of the Amauter footy league and Metro Cricket. Where you have Div1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. That would mean a club like Aldgate might have there A Grade in Div 1 and they have a strong B grade that might be in Div 3 with the weaker A Grade sides from around the leagues (Maccesfield, Echunga etc).

Or you could just have the A grade teams in a super league and the other B, C & D grade and juniors stay in the associations. Then we could have promotion and relagation of teams. It would make for a lot stronger cricket and may allow teams to attract more players.

CF you may be on to something with the A-grade super league arrangement. i think the Courier Cup is good, but could definately be expanded into the only top tier leauge. i don't think it would work out with the lower grades though. In Hills C and D grade only play 40 overs. this suits a lot of guys who can't commit every week due to work, softness, etc. If there is a change to 2 day games, then a lot of guys might pull out all together.

One of the major hurdles i can see is the travel between grounds. this is already an issue for guys that coach junior cricket - eg, if juniors are playing at Meadows and then the coach has to play seniors in the arvo at say Belair (which already happens), it really doesn't leave much time to get to the ground. if the travel increases even more then this has the potential to cause problems. probably not a show stopper, but needs to be thought through.

Yeah you have a good point about the travel, but really is it that big of issue. I agree it should only be the A grade into a "Super League". All other grades shall remain in there individual leages (HCA etc) and all current game rules would still apply to them.

But, All teams in those 3 comps with a A grade will be allocated into a Div 1 or Premier, Div2 and Div 3. To play one dayers & 2 dayers against each team in there Div so that would mean perhaps 8 teams in each Div. Div 1 could play for the Courier Cup Trophy at the end of the year which would involve a cash sum as well to provide incentive. It would provide alot more interest in the courier at the moment its seen as pissed cricket. The cash incentive would also provide incentives for clubs to improve and recruit, the promotion and relagation would also be great i think.

the idea of relegatio/promotion is a good one. the top team from div 2 gets promoted by default and whoever gets the spoon in div 1 goes down. would make for really even competition across all grades.

I would make the promotion relagation bottom 2 in Div 1 and top 2 in Div 2. Clubs also have no choice in the promotion/relagation its compulsory.

Good topic.
One problem though with relegation etc could be with some clubs only having A's and C's...A's and B's...I assume if an A grade team goes down, the whole of that club follows?

No, i think it would work best if only the A Grade side from the 3 comps formed the "Super League" for the lack of a better name. Which would be 3 div's and promotion and relagation would occur between these 3 div's only.

The other teams that a club has would still play in their normal association against the normal sides in there comp. There would be no changes to B, C & D grade or Junior levels they would remain as they are now.

I think that would be the easiest way to do it.

Mylor looking to fill a D grade ( 3 teams ) next season. Looking to build depth and get used to fiiling 3 sides before making the BIG step to A grade. Don't want to go up for 1 or 2 years then drop back to B grade - Must put steps in place so the transition to A's is a permanent and eventually successful one. Also looking at getting a junior side started. Positive signs but being a small club must be patient and not rush into things.

well CF, expect a much stronger MLCC next season, theres a rumour of a A grader from a nearby club already signed up. There were some losses last year but not many thumpings as you put it...

Latest Rumours going around in A+EH is that FINNISS may be making a comeback to 'B' grade. I believe a Disgruntled player from a near by club is Behind the Move. Wont it be great to have another oval back in use to Rival Wistows.
Also Ashbourne have just laid a further 2 Turf Pitches to give them a 4 pitch square as they gather momentum in their push to return to 'A' Grade Cricket. Hope the pitches come up well as the oval and surrounds are among the most picturesque in S.A.
