Who won the A grade final?

I know Mylor won the B's, Aldgate the C's and Easterns lost the D's (not sure who to).

Congrats to all winners, esp nice to see ERCC have no success :D

Some things of interest -

> Mylor CC, surely now its time to go to A grade, lost 1 game in 3 years, with some doubts over Stirling and H/Valley in A grade there cannot be a 7 team A grade next season.

> In the C grade 3 of the 4 finalists have no B grade team, seems some clubs are taking the easy option here or is it just a fact that one day cricket is what players want?

> That Aldgate c grade team looks like the A grade from 2-3 years back!

Strath batted first and made 129 and Nairne were able to chase down that score with 6 wickets in hand. Clint Foster had a pretty fair weekend, 8/52 and 55no.

Strath beat Ashbourne in the A2's

Finniss beat Nairne in the B Grade

Ashbourne beat Strath in the C Grade

The above points also apply the the A&EHCA where Clubs seem intent in only nominating teams in grades where they feel they are genuine finals contenders.
12 clubs for only 6 'A' grade teams is ordinary also 2 clubs without an 'A' grade dont even have an 'A2' grade which defeats the entire purpose of introducing this grade last season.

Seems that it's only a matter of time b4 the entire comp goes to ALL 1 dayers to satisfy the bash and crash attitudes of most cricketers these days.

Dutchy why the animosity towards Ranges?
Just asking as i played for them with a great bunch of blokes about 15 years ago.
We had some good hard battles with the likes of Aldgate and Lofty, but seem to remember that the
atmosphere after games was always pretty cordial.

Have Ranges really gone down hill in the sportsmanship dept?
Or is it more of a clash of personalities with one or two?

Pm if you like but i am genuinely interested to find out
Because if its the former I will be very disappointed.

Yeah mate sportsmanship wasnt real flash in our last game, it was pissing down with rain, low cloud was coming over the ground, they had already won the game and made the finals yet they refused to let us go to the pub! We hang around for an hour and again they still refused to call it off! we got a carton anyway :) we had to ring the HCA executive to get the OK to leave the ground cause they were threatening forfeit if we left.

There were a few other things but Ill leave it at that, my understanding is none of the club are locals anymore, havent had any problem with them prior to the past couple of years, in fact I made my A grade debut there 20 years ago so have some fond memories of the ground.

Thanks for that Dutchy. I must say I am pretty angry about that. At the risk of sounding like an old man, that would NEVER have happened in my day! At the first shower and the game won or lost, the matting would not even be up by the time the first beers were cracked! I mean for crying out loud, that goes against everything we played for. Nine times out of ten the publican at The Scenic Hotel had to throw us out just to get us to GO to the game! Cricket was just a way to pass the time between Sat morn and Sat night @ the Scenic. Christ I played 10 years of footy and 10 years of cricket up there and if these pricks think they can waltz in and destroy MY clubs reputation, well they can bloody well think again! Pah! Non locals geez they can shit ya cant they?

Settle trev, the majority of the HCA games in the last round were **** around by the rain, blame the ladder which rewards runs/wickets, not just results. It happens every year in the round before finals!

Can anyone from Mylor tell me if Steadman won the club champion award for the 5th season in a row ?

In respone to both of Panthers posts;

Steadman finshed second in the Mylor cricketer of the year behind Bawden who had a great year for the Pipers. Danny Bates finshed third with Gaunt finishing fourth from memory.

At the dinner many of the Mylor players seemed more interested than ever in playing A grade next year, even some of those who have been quite reluctant in previous years. Obviously an A grade nomination will be dependent upon retaining key players for next year and hopefully even picking up one or two new ones. Time will tell on that one, but things do appear to be promising with Gifford likely to return and steadman and Guant indicating that they will be back again next year.
I personally would like to see how Gaunt goes in A grade as he is probably one of the most technically gifted and talented players playing in hills cricket (you may agree or disagree but that is my opinion as sopmeone who has seen him play for a few seasons now) and he may actually apply himeslf and keep his head in the game - which I think will result in a lot of runs.

On all of these things time will tell, but hopefully the continued wave of optimism around the club will reslut in an A grade nomination followed by a competitive year
