Bit unlucky on the weekend GTS, cant believe Cranna actually took it!
It will be interesting to see how you and clarries go on a decent sized oval that you can set fields to! Plenty of catching practice this week I assume?

nah I wont be umpiring as Ill be in Port Hughes for the weekend, wouldnt mind though!!!

Clarries will get found out on a big oval, they wont know what to do if they have to run more than 2 runs....Aldgate also played at Valley in the A3's semi last year so they know what the pitch is all about

Bit harsh on Woodside......most betting men, would have had a Lobethal v Kersbrook GF picked out early in the season.

A bit harsh???? Every year the so called Warriors get knocked out in the semi's HA HA HA HA!!! Even with the lure of a home GF this season they still couldn't manage to get thru. I can't begin to imagine what would happen if they actually backed up Big Nick and Wingers and got their game together in March one season

Anyway - Hopefully the Cavaliers can breakthrough for their first A Grade Title, hoist the flag high on Sunday arvo and end the Tiger trot!!!! Any idea who's got the job of Umpiring?
Please not Pugs

Does B. James' Total (very impressive avg) include Courier Cup games or just Saturday arvo's - this must be up there for the Most runs in the TVCA

Here's a curly one for ya Cougar - Is R James available/qualified to take part in the GF and if so, who will they drop? It was a convincing win at Gum and from what I saw the whole team played well...

Also - now that the KCC A2's are in the GF how will K Pearce feel to be dropped, umpiring the B grade after overseeing the A's all season?

Here it is Big Ship: Umpires this weekend; A grade K.Pearce and D.Hills, A2 T.Gladigau and D.Rathjen.
Big task for the Cavaliers to upset the highly fancied Lobethal to secure their first 'A' grade flag. Lobethal should be favourites to make it 5 in a row
Nick 'Slim' Johns and Paul Collyer were the TVCA leading 'A' grade run scorers this season with Brett James winning the aggregate. And Brett did not play Courier Cup Games.
Understand Roger James is available this weekend with the Roosters having a Friday Night Trial. Will make an interesting selection meeting come Thursday Night.
Most Torrens Valley 'A' grade clubs have nominated Kym Pearce as the No.1 Umpire in the comp in his maiden season, and it's no surprise that he's got the gig this weekend. Only 5 years ago Trevor Gladigau umpired his son Travis in a TV GF.
What's the gripe against Woodside Big Ship? Would think they'd be happy with 3rd place this season. Lobethal and Kersbrook have far more depth at their disposal.

Personally I think Woodside did fairly well in finishing 3rd. They really rely on too few though to be a major threat to the likes of Lobethal and Kersbrook. Nick Johns won a number of games off his own bat. I can see where the ‘chokers’ tag comes from. They’re always around the mark in most grades yet how many flags have they won in the past 10-15 years? Some of the older guys I play with at Lenswood take great joy in recounting past finals demolitions of Woodside during the early/mid 90s.

Are their A2 team chokers? Maybe. They lost only once all year and then get knocked off in the semi. Still, I can’t criticise as we had our first loss since xmas to an out of sorts Paracombe as well.

Love them or hate them, Woodside are good for the comp though.

Yeah - I too remember watching those finals during the 90's when Kuiper, Plummer, et al broke the Woodside players mentally - come finals time especially. What I don't understand is why it would still be happening when the only player still around from those A Grade days is Matt "Hooter" Johnston. The majority of the current side don't have the history of "choking". They all went through a very successful Junior programme at Woodside - winning truckloads of flags in U14's and 16's. I leave out the ever ageless Rick Hill, although he was involved in a couple of successful A grade flags back in the 80's I think.

One question for whoever can answer it is who the tall, lanky opening bowler is for the Warriors? He looked a bit raw on Saturday but hopefully somone can drag him aside and turn him into a demon - something the TVCA could do with badly! Maybe the Warriors can hold onto him unlike the speedy quintet of Aaron Galvin, Dylan Thompson, Brad DeVries, Steven Rofe and Courtney Johns who all came through the juniors in red and blue (within two years of each other) but moved to other clubs upon their "graduation".

This Saturdays GF looms as a real Clash of the Titans after a few finals between the current heavyweights in the last few years. Many questions will be answered come Sunday afternoon -

- Have the Cavaliers learnt from past mistakes and can they exorcise the ghosts from the GF at Gumeracha two years ago?

- Can the Tweedvale Veterans hold sway and drag the many A grade Tiger Cubs up by their bootstraps and teach them the ways of winning for the Yellow and Black?

- Is it the last time we might see Jason Sziller? - the player many have underestimated, but for mine remains one of the best All Round cricketers to have donned the Black Cap.

- How will the Tigers opening attack cope under the biggest pressure of their short careers?

- Will P. James be able to pull off a big double in a GF and take wickets and make runs opening up in both innings?

- Can A McDonald put another feather in his cap and lead the Cavaliers to victory as easily as he has done with the Willowfest teams he's led to Mildura?

- Will Wehrmann and Collyer be rewarded with a flag after their decision to defect from Paracombe a few years ago? Or will they encounter a certain umpire (originally from the same club) with a loooooong memory?

I could keep going but it's getting interesting at the Gabba (5/181 with 11 overs to go - target 259) and hopefully we'll do the right thing and I can go to Adelaide Oval and watch a 3rd final on Friday arvo - Go Aussie Go!!!! 8)

Good to have some TVCA discussion on here 8)

The tall lanky bowler you're referring to would probably be Mallichan. I dont play As so I cant tell you too much about him, but his figures always look tidy in the paper.

Good point regarding their younger players. When i was playing colts in the early/mid 90s woodside would well and truely flog us (and all others), yet 95% of those players are no longer at the club. (Wingers one of the exceptions)

Lofty Redcaps wont the toss and put Valleys into bat at SCIB Park, proceeded to be 4/16 with the HCA leading run scorer getting a globe  , Anth Lewis dug in and scored 80 no including a handy 60 run 9th wicket partnership with Roons to put 9/173 on the board.....Redcaps proceeded to rip the Valleys a new one and all out 55....

Both Under 16's and the Tenacious D's thru to the big Dance for the Redcaps...bring on next week 8)

Balls to Valleys and the Gate......

Did hear thru a friend that Onkas beat Eastern rangers in the other A4 semi.. Onkas can only play finals with 10 players as they have 4 guys that have only played 5 games and have no one else qualifed, so are playing with 10 players and still beat the Ex top side to make it thru.. not a bad effort!!

TVCA Grand Finals:

A grade: I only saw 10 minutes of it, but Wimberley and the tigers looked to be going ok. Cougar?
A2 grade: Kersbrook made about 315. Made Paracombe look B grade.
B grade: no idea

Mylor 125. Bridgy all out for 53 in reply. Players had time to drop in to see the Gators v Ranges semi and still hit the Bridgy pub before 4pm, so not sure about "all sorts". Seems like a good result on a 40 degree day!

Will need more than 125 in the GF you'd reakon though. Good to have that bad one out of the way. Also good to have beaten evey other team now.
