i agree its a silly scenario, but it did almost happen.
the phone went off but a wicket was not taken, would have been interesting if it had.

Bowler well into his run up, bowles the delivery and the umpires mobile phone starts ringing.

The batsman is bowled.

Batsman claimes the ball should be called dead because he was put off by the mobile ringing

IS he out?

Thats a silly scenario. Any sane umpire would switch their phone off before going out to umpire.

prob the same sort of umpires that click the f****** counter as you are about to bowl.. gives me the shits

ICC Sharks V Plympton a few moons ago.
ICC batsman's middle stump goes back 10 metres but the bails bobble up and wedge together not dislodging.
Is this out given that it takes the bails to be dislodged to be given run out ?

FWIW the batsman did walk but it was a talking point over a beer later.

It was Section 1 at Plymptons Oval.
Batsman was Brad Fry, can't remember the bowler.
I think the umpire was TOny Fromene.
Got a mention on KG's show during that week too.

what about a batsmen gets hit in the chest with a short ball, as he throws his head back his helmot comes off, meanwhile the ball is looking like it might drop on the stumps, the batsmen goes to grab his helmot at the same time knocking the ball away with his hand.. is that out??

I wouldn't think so, that would be considered evasive action wouldn't it?
The evasive action, apart from trying to avoid being dismissed, would be attempting to keep his helmet on.

Obviously it would depend on the context but if the ball hits his glove as a result of the evasive action, it is fair game for a catch and not handling the ball (from my understanding of the rules). You can prevent your equipment from hitting the stumps.
Could that be one where the benefit of the doubt goes to the batsman?

What about batsman gets stuck on the pads, and the ball flies to firs slip. During the appeal, with the batsman still out of his crease, first slip walks up to the stumps and flicks off the bails. Is that out?
