Are you confirming then that NEK are moving?

Officially, we will vote on it at our AGM on Sunday, but the consensus is that we will probably seek to join PDCA.

My mail is NEK officially voted yesterday to join PDCA.

Correct.

Any indication on what grade NEK would go in to?

PDCA standard is no where near what it use to be.[/quote]
Youd think 2 or 3? Not deep enough for grade 1.

PDCA will make them start near the bottom - 3 or 4

Certainly couldn't go in Div 4 that'd be ridiculous would smash every side by the length of the straight. In my opinion should start in 3 will probably win that and then be in Div 2 for quite some time. Just my opinion.

Agree with all that, and think they will prob start D3.. don't think they'll get it as easy as they think though, Smithfield were good last year, Enfield will likely be good this year, Craigmore and ATCO are not the worst.

Are there other A Grade teams in Div 3 in PDCA?

No I don't believe so. NEK IMO will not lose a game in Div 3. I would put them straight in Div 2

Smithfield are an A Grade side, and depending how C&CCA is, Enfield may play their A grade in there also.

Grade 4 is snot compared to what it was, but you over rate NEK - Mills & Levi are their only genuine bats, Ward, Ellul and Atkins the only genuine bowlers.

Maybe not, but by past history there is a fair chance they would lose the semi!

What should have happened a few years ago now was all the Adelaide hard wicket comps merged into a single comp administratively (single set of rules etc.) but split into north and south sections with their own division structure, possibly also including ATCA.

With SACA funding an administrative position, particularly as one of the carrots they were dangling to get members to vote YES to the Adelaide Oval upgrade was substantial extra funding at grass roots level which never eventuated.
Current structure has too much duplication and reliance on volunteers to be sustainable long term.

Exactly right, reckon around 2002 was when it began going pear shaped. Lets take a trip down memory lane..

lots of detail edited out

Nice summary Zartan, the merger with ICCA basically bought the association another 10 years of survival.
The main reason clubs fold is because they rely on mates of mates for recruitment, and eventually this well dries up, no matter how successful they are onfield. The ones who survive tend to be those that have permanent homes and strong links to footy clubs or other more reliable sources of new players. In the old days this came from the churches, but as society changed the church-based clubs were always going to struggle to survive unless they adapted.

This is where I wish Cricket Australia and/or SACA worked with grassroots clubs much more to make sure they have sustainable structures, as once a club is gone it is much harder to start a new one - much easier to get volunteers enthused if their family has a 50 year involvement with a club, as opposed to a brand new club with no tradition or history.
I don't think CA and SACA realise the importance of these clubs to the whole game of cricket in Australia - these are the foundations on which all the elite teams are based.

SACA has currently engaged SMS Strategies to provide expert consultancy services in strategic planning and facilties development, and are engaging with representatives/stakeholders in all sectors of the cricket community in relation to identifying current challenges and opportunities, and facilitate collaborative planning for the continued health/growth of cricket in the state.

Representatives being engaged include premier cricket clubs, metro and regional community associations, girls/womens cricket, junior cricket associations, individual cricket clubs, indig cricket, all abilities and multicultural cricket.

May be a case off too little too late.

Have Rose Park been accepted into TVCA yet?

To be based out of Houghton footy club, their inclusion would remove the bye in both grades of that comp.. sounds win/win.

Since C&CCA looks dead, lets travel down memory lane.. back some 33 years to the last Enfield United 'A' Grade premiership..

Paul Johnson was the captain, Enfield United had won their last 3 minor round matches to power into the finals, where after scoring 165 on day one of the Semi Final, Craig Treloar (3/20), John Shrive (3/13) and Paul Johnson (3/11) powered through Marion C of C to reduce them to 9/56 where they conceded defeat, to advance Enfield to the GF.

Enfield would make two changes for the Grand Final, with Mark Fitzgerald and Ian Lockwood (unavailable for GF) assuming 12th man duties, replaced by Glen Schaeffer and Paul Fitzgerald for the clash against minor premiers Enfield Lutheran at Paradise Primary School.

Paul Johnson won the toss and elected to bat on a fine Saturday afternoon.

*Note* Enfield Lutheran captain Wayne Gehling still plays currently at Adelaide Lutheran, and Enfield United opening batsman Craig Davids this year played in Enfield's F Grade premiership.
