Be interesting to see if they can work their way up the grades.
Would make a decent road trip

Not entirely true Jim they have migrated with Eudunda on a trial basis for one season

Hope it works out for them.
If the trial is succesful have they indicated what their future plans are?

It's more of a trial from our end i believe, im pretty sure they would like to join permanently.
Given the lateness of their interest this is the best outcome for all at this point

I think a bigger concern is the lack of sides playing in the A2's, seems several clubs are happy to be big fish and not test themselves against other B grade sides. Should be 8 sides in the A2's, if there is only 5 or 6 sides in A3's then so be it.
Need to be making the A2's better before we worry about if there are byes in A3's, 6 sides in the A2's is a joke

Kapunda down the the A3's? Another case of a B grade side playing in a C grade competition. Whats going on?

So there's still a bye in A3s and now A2 teams play A1r teams every now and then?

Gotta agree. The advantage with the current structure is we have a two A1 divisions, this in itself is the greatest improvement to the fixturing there has been in a long time, it also means its made getting other grades roughly level in ability has been simplified.

However the assumption that a club has a side in A1 (rather than A1R) means that its second side must automatically be of A2 quality is just plain wrong. Compare Gilbert Valley A3's to Nuriootpa A2's as an example.

One issue relates to the top end talent, the other relates to depth (and perhaps how many players get off their arses to actually play). Not all clubs are flush with numbers, so the drop off is greater....

The bye in 3s wont concern u, you're in 2s now.
There will always be a bye in the 3s if an odd amount of teams nominate, its the lowest 2 day grade

Days, are they leaving Mid Murray, or had they been in recess?
I'm wondering what this means for MM if they are leaving there.

They had their AGM last Monday night and disbanded their comp. I think BSR folded and Perponda decided to go elsewhere leaving just Waikerie Gold and Morgan. Waikerie Gold will play in the riverland comp and Morgan wanted to join ours.

Perhaps a couple players from BSR might head over the hill to the valley.
Isnt there a couple of current or ex Nuri footy players playing cricket out there?

Was talking to the bsr guys a couple weeks ago. Most of them don't live there anymore and instead travel back from town. I expect most will simply stop playing.

I reckon the footballers you speak of were more fill ins and perhaps not super reliable.

So it all kicks off today, who does everyone see as the favourites this year?
Personally cant see the top 4 changing too much, Angaston, Centrals and Freeling all seem to have similar squads and would think the Premier would come from 1 of those 3 clubs. Sandy and GV to battle it out for 4th. South look certainties to go straight back down, look very light on depth and don't think they have recruited much, struggle to see them winning many if any at all. At Kapunda it will a tough season, lost several of last years A grade and will be a real test of the club's depth and junior program. Just looking over the teams named today im presuming its Rivertons footy trip this week with a couple of decent outs.
Good luck to all clubs this year, great weather to kick off the season

A few interesting results across all the grades. At this early stage and i know there is along way to go but maybe the exec got most things pretty spot on with grading.
Kapunda despite supposedly the world caving in around their A1 team in the off season had a win over a footy trip effected Gilbert Valley.
A replay of last years Semi between Sandy Creek and Ango saw the debut of Chris McLean for the Cocks. Vivian got the panthers off to a flyer being dismissed for 55 with the total at 67. Apparently he and Kingy have had the same lengthy pre-seasons and have come out firing. Ango posted 195. Chris mcLean nearly eclipsed close mate Andrew Frackowskis debut season in the B&L in one hit making 76, The cocks were coasting to victory, enter BS Burgess, in spikes for the 1st time to clean up the tail, a job normally left to the astute Captain, brother Brett and the cocks were dismissed 12 runs short
South Gawler celebrated their return to A1 maybe a little premarurely after posting 0/244 off their 40, Riley Barker with a ton and Hogan inexplicably not having enough time to get there with 95*. Im sure the Barker boys would have been up and about early in Centrals innings but things would have gone quite very quickly. Centrals coasted to victory led by Frackowskis 80 and a 51 ball 93 from Kingy in his 1st wield of the willow since last years Semi. May be a long year for South with the ball.
In the other game Read Hannun picked up where he left last year smashing 143 out of 250 to get the reigning premiers off to winning start against Light Pass.
The mis match of the century between Nuri A1ressies and the bottom team from last years A2s, Tanunda, didnt live up to the hype with Taunda having Nuri on the ropes at 5/80 chasing 120 before a patient captains knock from Lydeamore saw Nuri grab the points. No injuries to report.
Last years wooden spooners in the ressies Tanunda, welcomed back Mitch Boschen from the Jets with Mitch taking 7/7 to roll last years runners up Lyndoch for 38,
Eudunda also started the season with a win despite only taking 2 wickets. It was the return of Dean Vickery with 89 not out that got them home and if he plays a majority of the games Eudunda may push for a spot in the 4 for the 1st time since the A1 ressies comp started.
In the 2s newly promoted Freeling didnt have much trouble with traditional powerhouse of this gradei in Nuri.
Lucky for Gawler Central they were not promoted to A1 ressies as they were embarrased by the 2nd bottom team from last year in Ango being dismissed for 33,
Hot favourite for the 2s this year, Sandy Creek were unexpectedly beaten by South Gawler in a close encounter.
In the 3s recently demoted Kapunda had a close win over Lyndoch to show they will be around the mark in this comp. Greenock after a couple of lean years also got off to a good start with a tight one over Gawler Central. Light Pass also had a win

Good start in both the ones and twos by Freeling. Bit hard to read into these very early season results though as every club has players out

Looks like pretty much the same blokes to me? Goldsmith not there but plenty of Ryans, Johnsons and Reimanns so they'll still go alright you would think...

not sure how this A2s playing an A1 side on the "bye" week is going to work out. seems like a pretty stupid idea to me, see how we go this weekend.
