Also, I assume every club is represented on the old forum still? If anyone knows of a club that's not, give them a nudge to get back on here, we all enjoy a fruitful forum.

#betterthanspreadsheets

Which club do you represent?

I have never been affiliated to any turf side, and it's been a long time since I was at a club full stop. But over the years I have watched many a cricket league from my camping chair, and the Adelaide turf league is one of my favourites, with it's many dimensions and characters.

If you still play a grade cricket then you will probably see me at one of your games. I just choose a game that looks like an interacting encounter. Pack my camp chair, binoculars, cheese and Vegemite sandwich, and head to the ground, sometimes I get to two in a day.

You obviously have incredible knowledge about the ATCA as you thought Marion had been lucky to stay up the last couple of years when they have won flags and you try to have a shot at Poorakas afternoon teas which are top shelf.

It was ment to read lucky to get up, not stay up. But thanks for pointing this out. Some of us haven't got the time to proof read our posts.

I like this new bloke.

Hashy McHash-Brown, given your knowledge between both ATCA and Grade Cricket, what are your thoughts on Goodwood's new coach and the impact he will have on their season this year?

Goodwood will be there or there abouts once again this year, cant see them finishing above 4th. Turner has a decent cricketing history but how will they recover from losing Martin? and will their B grade be full of 60 year old a grade hasbeens or will they play some youth this season?

But I will definitely be along to a goodwood game or two this year, a grade only obviously.

Huge pressure on POOraka this season. With all the recruiting ($$$) over the last few seasons, what will happen if they stumble again this season?? How much deeper are the clubs pockets?? I hope they are promoting some youth so that when the cash runs out they don't slide down to A4.
There once was a bloke named Fracka,
Scored runs since he was a young tacka,
But alas not anymore,
his shot selection's been poor,
and now they call him QUACKA!!

No pressure at all this year! Only reason we are still in A2 is due to the only time in god knows how long that the minor premiers don't automatically go up. We are quite comfortable with where we sit, one of the best batsman we have had pre season is Brad Batton, young kid with plenty of talent, also picking up young Ricky Smith who once developed will be rather quick. Add that together with plenty of 22-26 year old players currently in the A Grade and B grade squad now, makes for a very comfortable position. I'll make the bold prediction we will finish top again. That's not being arrogant either, more confident in the talent I see at training every week.

So here are my predictions for this season,

A1-Where the don't just play because they love the game, the professionals.
Woodville Rech to win, although this could their last horrah with some of their big guns contracts up.
Marion to go down. Been lucky to stay up, and heard they are losing some of their youngsters due to lack of opportunity.

A2- Real cricket, Woodville South to win, got a few solid players heading up their a grade, more than enough to put in performances every week.
Brahma Lodge to go down, honey moon over, one olayer isn't enough here, and a2 has bowlers that can bowl a whole over in the right place!

A3- underarm, onehand onebounce rubber ball cricket. Reynella to win, got some promesing young guns and a3 should suit them well, dont think they will cruise it, but with a game to spare.
Hectorville to go down, not the playing group, more the hierarchy in the club, a few cracks starting to show, hope they get over it before it effects on field activities!
-side note, who is hope valley's backer? Looks like they have recruited some decent players, but like man city first few years with all thos egos, no success.

A4- No one cares!!

Should be at least 3 sets of umpires available as there is 1 less game per round in the divisions above.....

I will have to get down to a pooraka game early on in the season with my cheese and vegimite sandwich, in brown bread, to see if there is any bite with that bark.

Okc do you still play netball? Do the "men" wear skirts aswell? Equality. I only ask because of your knowledge of pooraka cc., wonder how you have the time?

Very disappointing really.
Was the perfect opportunity to dump the 6 worst umpires and try and improve the pool a little bit.
Instead they have increased the costs by 20% and continue to put up a cr@p service.

It's always fun to try and explain to the playing group we've put subs up, you get less cricket, and we now have "umpires" ruining more games.

Can't work it out either professional 20/20 cricket is not the big money spinner that the Indians thought it was going to be. Yet an amateur organisation wants to increase the amount played.

I think a few clubs are going to see a big difference in their bottom lines this season.....

Yup, big difference for us.
Umpires are taking a massive wack out of our budget with 5 teams now paying umpires, up from 3 last year, plus the fact they cost 20% more as well means our umpiring bill has almost doubled.
Cricket balls are up and with more short forms of the game meaning more new balls are required.
Also a number of our sponsors are saying no or downsizing their commitment due to current economic conditions.

I was speaking with some high ranking club officials last night and it looks like we are going to post a significant loss this year.
At this rate our end of season dinner is going to be a couple of dominos pizzas and a weak mix of home brand cordial.

Best advice get your committee to speak to other big clubs about your situation I'm sure you are not alone. Then tackle the executive at a delegates or annual general meeting.

At a netball carnival now if you must know, just about to step on court for a prelim final!

Try playing a game without them!
Get more ex players that think they know all the rules to take up the role when they get too old or are they happy to sit back and complain about it till they die?

I play most weeks without them, I'm not good enough to play up the top end.
I must say, I enjoy it more when players umpire as at least everyone knows what the situation is. With "umpires" you just appeal for whatever and know that every 3rd one will be given out.
