It is voted on at every PDCA AGM, it is in the best interests of the PDCA to have something in place, a bloke passed away last season after a days play and he wasn't even very old, Adelaide Turf comp for memory, call the world "soft", I'd like to think of it as "smart".
Yes he was from the ATCA and from what I ahve heard did not have the ideal preparation. It is soft and from a legal point of view smart, I just think it is a disgrace that lawyers can let hte world be this way so we have to put these ridiculous policies in place so as not to worry about a law suit. We are all adults and should know how to adequately prepare for a game especially if it is going to be hot. I am lucky I dont get affected by it in my grade at Adelaide Turf but it is a summer sport, you should expect ot playi n the heat. How did they do it in the old days. People I guess back then were jsut a lot harder than we are these days. It is pathetic.

Win more minor round games and finish higher.
Dead right LM makes for no excuses.

There is nothing tough about playing cricket when it 40.. No one likes it and no one likes to play in it when it does get that hot.. Totally agree with the rules..

Our A's & C's both got shafted with it last season, both were in winnable positions, disappointing, but we knew where we stood.

Whats the difference when you are playing footy is what feels like 0 degrees and its belting down rain..
Doesnt get cancelled because its too cold!
The point i was making aswell what the PDCA let us all play on that Saturday at 39 degrees, but the next day was too hot!!!?? Pffft, whatever. You cant tell me that it wasnt hotter than 39 out at Two Wells that day... The whole game should have been cancelled if we are going by "the rules".

Browny, I can totally understand your angst after last season, each year, all of the club delegates get together at the PDCA AGM and discuss all possible variations of the rules and vote on changing them, it is a long night and nobody is allowed to leave until the meeting has been called "closed".
If you start making assumptions on weather and conditions it will open a bigger can of worms, they have got it right IMO, during the 6pm news on the night before a game is scheduled, if the weather-person states that the forecast for Elizabeth is 40 or above, there is no cricket. This eliminates any grey areas and they use Elizabeth because it is relatively central for all of the PDCA clubs.

I Dont get it?
Everyone knows the rules at the start of the season and if play is abandoned due to rain or its too hot then the team that finishes higher on the ladder goes through to the next round.
If Brahma Lodge thought honestly thought they were a chance, why wouldnt Sibbick have thrown Wells into bat earlier? Everyone knew the weather forecast for the next three days was going to be 40+ and Sunday was already forecasted saturday at lunchtime to be 41 in Adelaide let alone Elizabeth's forecast!!!
Two Wells were aware of this and thats why they took their foot off the pedal for the saturday...
Either way Two Wells went on to win the Grand Final the following week in fine style...
Two Wells PDCA Grade 1 Minor and Major Premiers for 2007/08...

Grahaml wrote:It would be nice to see results for finals but you have to make player safety a primary concern. You can't ask 50 year old blokes to run around the oval all day in 40 degree heat when all the medical evidence says that's just far too risky.
They have to have a hard and fast rule applied across the comp, and it can't be subjective. And you can't change the rules because it's a final IMHO. If there were a fair way to do so then so be it but I can't think of one. It probably goes to show the benefit of finishing top 2.
For what it's worth I think the way the rule is applied is perfect. The only thing they might look at changing is the number they go on because in time it will change to 36, perhaps slowly, and perhaps one degree at a time.
