No, nothing sinister here, just a perfect storm of players in the Redbacks, English players returning home, injuries, players having to play college cricket, work unavailabilities and the usual fill-ins not being available for various reasons (eg- an army reserve exercise on the weekend took out a reliable fill-in). First time I can remember having to forfeit a senior side in at least 15 years. Believe me, every avenue was tried to get a side up!

Glad to hear, a few years ago now we cancelled day 1 of a 2 day due to a car accident on a Friday night involving one of the opposition players.

I guess if the game started this week some of the under 16 players could of stepped in.

Don't get me started on the college cricket system, they all talk about tradition but play 1 days games now, tradition was 2 day games.
Standard dropping year on year so if you want to keep tradition play on a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon, finish school early , start at 3pm 50/55 over game done by 6.30pm (still light during summer), week 1 at home side college , week 2 at away side college, meaning only travelling once for the game. Would think all college schools would have a bus to get players there.

Finishing school at lunchtime every Wednesday or Thursday would be quite a problem for Year 12 students. They would be missing 25% of the subject content for whatever subjects were scheduled at that time (1 lesson of the 4 scheduled each week), A number of colleges now, though, are signing up to only play in the Saturday morning competition, enabling the students to play club cricket in the afternoon.

Port Adelaide did it to Elizabeth, might have been the season before the merger.

Amazing effort by Sturt to win the minor premiership in all FOUR junior grades. Great signs for the future.

Also won Ray Sutton & top minor round of 18’s (Final won by ND). Strong Academy Pathway combined with easier logistics for Parents in their Hills Country zone.

The Ladder and Run Home - Round 12

Kensington 225 (ET)
Port 180 (Bye)
University 155 (ND)
West Torrens 150 (SD)

Glenelg 130 (Ad)
East Torrens 125 (Kens)
TTG 110 (Pros)
Woodville 100 (St)

Sturt 100 (Wood)
Northern Districts 70 (Uni)
Prospect 55 (TTG)
Southern District 30 (WT)
Adelaide 30 (Glen)

Some significant movement on the ladder in the penultimate round! So much for the final 4 being sewn up!

Port just miss out on an outright vs Sturt, but secure a finals spot. They’ll be sitting on watching the last round needing neither Uni or West Torrens to win outright to earn a home semi final.

Uni hold on for a draw against top place Kensington, who scored their highest score for the season. The 5 points might be handy.

Glenelg’s outright win last weekend against Prospect gives them a chance to leap into the final 4 if they can defeat bottom placed Adelaide outright in the last round.

East Torrens defeat Woodville outright to have a sneaky chance of making finals if they can defeat Kensington outright in the last round.

Adelaide get their first win of the season over Northern Districts, sending the Jets to Div 2 for next season.

Tea Tree Gully secure their spot in Div 1 for next year, easily defeating West Torrens. The Eagles have scraped into the finals in the past two seasons thanks to Southern District holding on for draws (both 9 wickets down) in the last round. This year, nothing short of a win against Southerns will guarantee their spot in the 4.

So, some huge games next weekend to finish the minor round. The biggest one of all; Woodville vs Sturt at Woodville. Sturt need to win to avoid Div 2 and send Woodville there instead.

West Torrens to be decimated by players playing for the redbacks (could be up to 5 - Buckingham, Johnson, Drew, Smith, Nielsen).
A few of the lesser lights in Capel, Dick and Sibley need to step up. Could be a surprise inclusion if rumours are correct.

With the shield match finishing Friday and in Adelaide, you’d expect at least Drew and Smith would dust up Sat morning and make their way up cement hill?

Spot on Hound. We've snuck in fortuitously to the finals the last 2 years thanks to Southerns, could they come to our assistance again?????
Bottom line is, we need a solid win to go into the finals with some form and momentum.

Don't bet on it. We are preparing to play without them.

Great effort by Glenelg, making finals in 6 of those 7 grades.
Still a chance in the A's too, but hopefully the Eags will deny that opportunity by beating Southerns on the weekend.

Game on tomorrow at Woodville Oval. I'm hearing some interesting "Ins' for both teams.
Also hearing that it wouldn't be a surprise if the 2 divisions doesn't go ahead next season as there could be some legal action being taken by 1 or 2 clubs??
Funny if it doesn't and some clubs have spent a bucket load of money this year
